Brian, stop, you're giving me nightmares. ("Retirement is hard work").

Jeremiah - I hope you have your slide rule, protractor and reference book, figuring out the angles in the heat shield (baffle). There aint much time left for the quiz results.

Terry: The outhouse is considered Jeanne's 50th (I think) birthday present. That was 12 years ago when we were spending more time out there and had occasional campers. It needed some "freshening up". Your reading material comment got me to thinking (always dangerous) and a covered plastic container will soon be added. I've got Ken Updike's "Farmall Cub and Cub Cadet" book here but it sure can't go outside since I've seen what they're going for, now. Great unexpected investment, I think.

I have a 125 and I would like to put a 129 Hydro in it. The 125 has internal brakes and the 129 has external. What happens with the brake linkage?

Daniel: More input? You're swapping the whole rearend (it sounds like) or just the pump?

Quick question - IH Cub Cadet 582. I gather they came with a Briggs & Stratton engine vs Kohler.

Are these B&S engines good, not so good, great?

I believe the 682 and 782 initially came with a Kohler KT-17 Series I engine, but had oiling problems. Any inherent problems that plagued the B&S engines in the 582 tractors?

Bill,
See the MTD thread "580 with Briggs" for most of your answers. I have owned two 582's and have been impressed with the Briggs 16 hp. They make good power and run out nicely. Pulled the first one very hard at a plow day and was impressed at how it did. Mowed the grass with the second one last week and was pleased.

I saw a 582 special pass me at RPRU this June and it sounded weird; used to the K v twin in the red ones. Not saying it's a bad thing, it just caught me off guard because it was different.

Harry: Andy ain't leaving here before I do, so if he disappears it will be because he's been stolen (not likely) or Jeanne gives us the boot.

Got this today:

From 2004 and got it for that year's price. Article is by Hank Will (who else)? I sure like being able to read!

Hey Bill, one of our pullers has the opposed 16hp Briggs in it. It is bone stock except we bypass the governor and rev it to about 4500. (Yes we are aware the flywheel could come apart.) pulls hard. We've been running it for 6 year with only std. tune ups as needed. I swear it's going to blow up, but knock on wood, still going strong. Finally getting blow by last 2 years.

So as far as I'm concerned, it a great engine. No replacement for a Magnum or Command though.

Closer to on topic. One of the cylinders in IH 782 finally stopped sealing. Both are really scored and need bored. But that is $$$. So it's getting ready for the Mag 20, power steering and freshened hydro pump sitting on the shop floor. 2 of those 3 things I really wish IH had put on from the start. Now I just need the rare front ports and dual spool valve and proper dash to deck it out like his bigger cousin.
