CUB CADET PAINT - has anyone found rattle can paint that comes close to CC yellow or more importantly white? I would use the CC paint but its like 4 time's the cost of Krylon. Plus not nearly as available when I need it.
I think I used to use Krylon antique white on tractor parts but forget if it was for John Deere patio white touch up, simplicity, wheel horse, or cub wheels? Its been too long.

Should add a picture

Bill,

That blade and undercarriage will work just fine on a 109. That undercarriage will fit:

86,108,109,128,129,149,169 - WideFrame
800,1000,1200,1250,1450,1650 - Quietline
and the red 82 Series.

We have 149's a 1450 and a 782 and have used the same blade and undercarriage on all 3 tractors.

With the picture you attached, it looks like that one has been used previously on a Quietline or 82 Series tractor, with the exhaust "soot" on the right side of the blade. The WideFrames exhaust comes out of the right side of the tractor, just under the hood. The Quietline and 82 series exhaust comes straight out the front of the tractor, through the grill.

Ed,

Take a look at TSC (Tractor Supply) or someplace like Big R, or Farm and Fleet or a similar farm supply store. They should carry the VanSlike brand of "industrial" paints. They have cans of IH Cub Cadet Yellow, and IH 935 White, which is the color of wideframe and quietline Cub Cadets. There have been 3 different "Whites" and 2 Yellows used during the IH years, and several different Yellow and Whites during the CCC/MTD years. Take a look at this page:
https://www.ihcubcadet.com/BobsPage/cubpaint.htm
and it shows the different Whites. Some are a more tan-ish cream color, and other have a blue-ish hue to them...

This page:
https://www.ihcubcadet.com/IHCCFAQ/Paint.htm
Has some of the Cross-reference numbers for getting paint from sources like NAPA.....

Thank you Scott.
Now I can take it over to Dads and share my new attachment.

Bill, Ed,

For the IH Built Machinery I believe these:

White:
http://www.tractorsupply.com/valspar-tractor-amp-implement-spray-paint-international-harvester-white-12-oz--3449928

This White you listed:
http://www.tractorsupply.com/valspar-tractor-amp-implement-spray-paint-cub-cadet-beige-3455521
Would be more than likely for the MTD Cub Cadet White. They have changed the color of both the yellow and the white over the years.

If you look at both can lids at the same time Cub Cadet Beige (The second link above) is more of a tan. The International Harvester White (First link above) is more cream/tan than beige.

I believe the this yellow:
http://www.tractorsupply.com/valspar-tractor-amp-implement-spray-paint-cub-cadet-yellow-12-oz--3455513
Would be close. But I know the actual name of the yellow on the IH Cub Cadets is:
IH Federal Yellow.
This is the same color all the construction/industrial International Harvester equipment was painted.

I've used a lot of #7770 Rustoleum almond. It matches almost perfect. The only problem is the tips clog easily. I just sent six cans to the Rustoleum lab on their dime. If they don't fix the problem I'll just get a computer match of Valspar at my local hardware store. It's a lot cheaper in the long run. That's how I got the yellow I spray. Valspar has a hardner that's pricey but highly recommended.

Hi all.

I'm a newbie to the forum, but have been around IH and Cub Cadet for years. Dad bought a 125 (either a 125 or 105) before I was born and still has it, 28 years later. It was the first CC I learned how to mow with and operate. He also bought a 782 about 7 or 8 years ago that we have been using.

Long story short, I moved out last summer and bought my own house with an adequate sized yard. I have been push mowing, which doesn't bother me, but have always slightly wanted a CC of my own. I wanted it more to clean out the driveway in the winter.

I found a used but cared for 147 on my local craigslist that I picked up this sunday, and since I like pictures, here are some.

I could really use an IH decal on the rear

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2338.jpg

I love the narrow frame with a cut out for the larger 14 HP engine. Makes me think of something my dad would do.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2340.jpg

It needs the shifter cover, or whatever it's called.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2342.jpg

The seat looks great. It's not like dad's where it's all cracked and pinches your rear during the summer.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2344.jpg

It had an electric lift at one point. Not sure if I'm going to put one on again.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2345.jpg

Needs a muffler.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2346.jpg

Deck needs some welding, but is in decent shape. The spindles are all tight.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2348.jpg

The rear lights do not work. Here's why- no wires! At least I have the light fixtures themselves.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2349.jpg

I still have the PTO pulley, but I think this is one of the main reasons he sold the mower. (plus the right front tire is split showing tube through) The bearing exploded- there are balls in the pulley, probably due to the lack of a center thrust button. I also have the grille; took it off for the photo.

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2350.jpg

Only one front light works. need another light. Where can I get those, are they sold at auto parts stores or is it a special order part?

http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a101/drglinski/104_2351.jpg

Thanks!

Daniel,

147's are my favorite. Looks in fairly good shape. But you have some work cut out for you. Nothing major from what I can see. Most of those older mower decks rot out around the deck wheels.

Looks like there was a tiller mounted on it at one time as it has the gearbox for a tiller.

The electric lifts are neat, but can be a pain. The hydraulic lifts are more reliable but more expensive.

I forgot to add that one of the things going for it for me was the rear tiller attachment, something that dad's 125 has. I also knew what to look for with the deck as they all seem to wear, like you said, in the same place. Not a deal breaker however.

Mike F - just about any will or can be made to "fit". I believe the correct decks would be 44A or 50A (maybe no "A" suffix so I'll have to check my parts book). There is also a later "C" suffix version of the 44 and 50 which would look exactly the same, and would work, and only you and I would know it was a C.

Ed C - the only time the exact paint color really matters is when you're at a show and your unit sticks out because of a different shade/color. My actual preference is the Case/IH Iron Guard 935 White (original to the early wide frames), and the original Federal Yellow still available from CCC. If you check with one of the sponsors you might find it for less than 4 times the price.

Ed, another brand of rattle can paint Ive used before was plastikote. Plastikote is an automotive spray paint that gives excellent coverage and is around $7 a can. The colors i used were school-bus yellow(T 29) and antique white(T 27).

Have a question on the throttle cable, I am trying to adjust speed and I noticed that the cable moves. Is this suppose to happen? If not how do I stop the throttle cable from moving. I tightened the screw/nut as tight as I am confortable. Couple pictures below, one in slow and the other full on.

James Krupar

Get a new clamp or take a common screw diver and after releasing the clamp some . Tap the screw driver with a hammer on the clamp. That will put an indent in the clamp at it will hold after that . All you need is a small crush mark anywhere on the clamp to hold the cable. That must be on and an orginl My .02

Or cover the cable with some tap where the clamp goes !

Don, or any 7 horse. (not many originals had the mechanical clutch). Thats a good idea about dimpling the clamp.

I think it's about time to call in the Cub Cop on all this off topic paint crap going on.

Next thing we'll be condoning a freakin sable hair paint brush!
