I use to call this tractor my "round fender 102". But since changing the engine from a 10hp to a 12hp, I had to rebadge it. I now call it my "120". And no, it's not just a model 71 with a 12hp engine in it. It's a mix of a model 73 frame, 72 dash, 102 grill/hood, and an implement lift handle from a 106. All parts I gathered up here and there. Everything fit together nicely. It makes some interesting conversation at the tractor shows....especially when somebody says they had on just like it. Yeah right!

There was some discussion a week or so ago about getting rid of the sediment bowl setup with inline filters/shutoffs. Here is what I do on my non-original tractors such as my "120". Its a fuel shutoff/screen from the wideframe tractors. Remove sediment bowl and nipple from tank. Screw this style shutoff/screen in, attach hose, and call it done. Charlie has this style in stock.

Kirk - calling it a 120 is perfect, especially since "100 with Post-production Updates" doesn't fit on the side of the hood. And if someone at a tractor show tells you they had 4 tractors "almost" exactly like it (72,73,102,106) then you also know they know what they're talking about.

Kraig - Oh Great One, Keeper of the Photos - I'm not understanding how the drag link can pivot up and connect with the screw or bolt head holding a mule drive on a non-QA tractor. Pics would be nice of how this could happen.
 
Hydro, same thing can happen on a QA equipped Cub Cadet. As the axle pivots up on the left side, the drag link arm/spindle cap gets closer to the frame. If there is a cap screw in the rear position of the mule drive (or snow thrower) bracket it can catch, BTDT. Here's the best I can find on short notice. Someday I may have to take a photo with the axle pivoted up on the left side.

It's a fun ride when it happens while mowing the ditch...........stuck in the "wrong" turn at the "wrong" angle adds to the pucker factor!!!!!!

Harry, I got the picture from the service manual in the manual section.
 
While I'm in a picture posting mood, here ya go.

This clearly shows why they used the slotted head bolt in the rear. Of course, with no flat washers under it either.

Why the sections of chopped off mule drive? That's what I use to mount the front blade with. No mower deck ever goes under this 100.

Ok, now I get it. It's not really the drag link, it's more the cap on the steering knuckle where the drag link connects with the ball joint. And who was it said pics are worth 1000 words - and why we're so lucky to have Kraig - the Great One, Keeper of the Photos (especially that others post).
Well, guess we have to chalk another one up for why wide frames are better than narrow frames (ok, is my can opener working?) I guess we need Jeff and his meowing cat.

So I was messing around with steering knuckles/spindles today and found something interesting.
Seems the NOS from IH changed dramatically after CCC/MTD took over.
Left is IH NOS (IH-140083-C2)and right is CCC/MTD (703-0085-0637)new today.

the weld on the IH looks better but the wider body on the mtd might be better

That change happened in the 80's, my red 82 series from MTD have the heavy spindles on the right.....
