Hello,
Again I was thinking of selling my 149 and had it listed for sale however when I got stuck in mud last weekend with a different tractor and used the 149 to pull it out. To make a long story short I got both tractors stuck in mud. I was covered in mud after freeing the 149 from being stuck which was a little hard without really being able to use reverse.. I pulled that craftman piece of u know what out of the mud using a longer chain . I pulled it up a hill and almost made it flipped over.. I’ll never have a tractor as strong as my 149 without spending thousands of dollars.
These are the problems I have- 1 the tractor will speed up by itself unless I keep my hand on the hydrostats control. I have already hit my garage doors and my Nissan pathfinder .. My pathfinder actually moved when I hit it.
The reverse only works sometimes. It seems to work better after I tow something heavy for a while.
No brakes which shouldn’t be costly to fix. I had gotten brakes from someone online before but was only able to get 1 break pad on myself. I couldn’t make the others fit . The 1 brake pad made a difference for about 3 weeks lol..

SO here is a question for everyone how much should it cost to repair the hydrostats transmission?
I am going to pick up something at lowes safe for others to drive but keep my cub for me :)

Marty-
You just want the engine to get up to operating temperature (and then cool overnight) prior to retorquing the head.

10-15 minutes should be more than enough....

Lisa, the speeding up of the hydro is most likely due to a loose hydro control lever. That should be an easy fix, unless something is broken. There were two different versions of the control lever tension adjust. Both are covered in the service manual, here's some pages from the service manual that cover it. I also included the neutral adjust section as it might need that as well.

The reverse only working sometimes points to a failing hydro release valve, aka "check valve". You can verify that this is the problem by swapping them side to side. Be sure to clean up the area around them THOROUGHLY you do NOT want any dirt to get inside. If after you swap them reverse works but forward doesn't, you found the problem. A used replacement valve should be fairly easy to find and reasonably priced, an add in the classifieds should get you the needed part. I might even have a spare or two kicking around. Here's where they are located on the hydro pump, item 1 in the photo. Note that the tunnel cover has to be removed to access this area. Also, have you ever changed the hydrostatic fluid and filter? If not this should also be done ASAP.

Home of the Plow Special

A few things to remember before you go out with the trailer this weekend.
1.Put on a license plate.
2. stow the seat cushion before you drive away.
3.Put more that 2 cubs on that big trailer.
Have some fun when you get where your going lol

Frank, Kraig and Ron,
Thanks for your response on my charging problem on my 128. Currently the battery voltage is 11.5 volts before starting. This does not change after start and throttle up. The amp guage does bounce. It just sits in the middle. I did perform the suggestion of grounding the F terminal and having the ingition in the start position. (Belt removed so engine does not turn) The rpm of the SG does indeed drop. I get a spark when ever I touch to ground. Does this indicate the charging portion is working? Thanks again with your suggestions. Sorry for late response, daughter's 10th birthday. Spent evening at 'Splash Lagoon'

Some weird things are going on here. I posted and well it did not show up where It should have

if I would have asked if anyone had a disconnect, would my thread have been deleted?
Would the proper place be the classifieds?

Ronald - If you wanted info about one here would be the place. If you wanted to buy one then the classifieds.
