Nick H - I don't know about the 149, but my 782 is also a wideframe and I've never replaced the spring tensioned pulley with a threaded one for tilling (or anything else). Never had a problem.

Thanks Greg for the input, I never had any trouble. This is my second year tilling and only had the belt squealing once or twice last year, but that was tilling virgin sod. I don't have that piece that bolts onto the hydro to kind of guide the belt either, no problems there also. Nick

Chris Busch - The first pair I bought on evil bay without knowing what I was buying, the second pair I bought from miller tire but had to call them as they were not listed on their site.

I also found these that are suppose to be 25 inches in diameter but they are for 4 inch wide rims...
Duro tires: 6-12

Would these fit on what I believe to be 5 inch rims? Since the old tires are 6-12, I'd think they would work.

Todd: I suppose they moved the battery beneath the seat for weight transfer? On my older cubs, I don't have a toolbox and that is a feature that I miss dearly when out in the field. It is too bad they deleted the toolbox in the later tractors.

Chris; The battery is under the seat. I think they done that to cut down vibration to the battery. The voltage regulator is there also. I like the setup fine but i also miss the toolbox.

Here is some things i got with my 108. They may be plentiful but i hadn't seen before. I don't have a scanner so i am trying pictures.

Are these part#180175 Frankenstein bolts? Are Frankenstein bolts used to mount the sub frame for a dirt/snow blade to the frame? Thanks.

Richard, for the dozer blade the "Frankenstein bolts" aka Shoulder bolts, (item # 2 in the drawing below) are not required. They are required for mounting the QA mower sub-frame and a QA snowthrower on a "QA enabled" Cub Cadet, i.e., 72, 1x4/5 series or later. There are also a style of "Frankenstein bolts" used to mount the upper cast piece of the rear lift on Cub Cadets. Added under edit: If you look down a few posts, in Luther's 2nd photo down, you can see the "Frankenstein bolts" listed as Item #4 in the parts drawing of the rear lift, they are listed as "Stub Shafts".

Dear IH Forum,
I am a first time poster and have a question and hopefully I could get my questions answered. I have a 1980 Cub Cadet 782 serial number 678512 with a hydraulic drip leak which looks like it is coming from the bore where the push rod for the internal brake is located in the rearend casing. How does this brake work?? Is there a piston with a seal similiar to a car master cylinder inside? Can I repair this leak or do I have to live with it? If anyone could tell me how this brake works or how it comes apart I would greatly appreciate the help.
Thank you, Phil Wood

Phil, first off, WELCOME!

Are you SURE that the leak is from the brake? Most leaks are from the area where the hydrostatic pump mounts to the rear differential. Here's two links to the FAQ LINK1, LINK2, that give some hints on how to locate where those pesky leaks are actually located.

Kraig' I use a white mask and a very large black hat and tote a big gun. I just took him up on his offer. He had bought a cardboard box mower. He said it ran and mowed perfect. So i said i will take a chance. We don't need to start it.

Dear Mr. McConaughey,
I have looked at your 2 links and will do your tests this week. I pulled the tunnel cover and the rear fenders last Saturday after I mowed the grass and looked at the lines, pump, check valves and they are all dry. It's only wet down at the bottom where the push rod for the brake is. I will look very closely this week and do some cleaning and wiping to see where this pesky drip is coming from and will let ya'll know. Thanks so much for the help. Thanks, Phil Wood

Luther Ray, The only issue that I see with the wide frame battery box and voltage regulator is that if you or the PO gets overly aggressive with the battery cables you will find a wiring harness clamp smack dab on the voltage regulators bat. terminal. Not good for sure.

Got home at 6:30 last night - 1250 mile trip, 740 miles yesterday ( from Cullman, Alabama..). Started raining about an hour after we got home, got up this morning, strange white stuff all over the ground, and somebody turned the heat off outside. Kitty cat wants to go back to her little gecko buddies. 129 started fine - the neighbor used it to keep the drive clear while we were sittin' under the palm trees. Funny thing, he uses it now, I tried to get him to buy it from the original owner back in '85 - when he opted for a new green thing (long gone), I bought it instead. Looking forward to a good summer of cub work -the 129 needs a steering box tuneup and the 149 needs - everything... Great to be home!!

Bobby B : - we waved and honked on the way through - there was a big auction going on just south of Dothan..

Phil, here's a link to where I had posted, a week or so ago, some pages from a service manual on the brakes. Click on the link then scroll ALL the way to the bottom for the post.

BRAKE INFO

Kendell, welcome home! We had that same strange white stuff yesterday morning, it was all gone by noon.

Thanks Mr. McConaughey for the information about the brake. I will try and repair this leak with your information you provided. I will let you know if I succeed. Thanks again for your help.
