Hi folks. Still putting an Opposed B&S engine in my 782. The exhaust on this engine will not allow me to run the pipe out the front. My option is straight out the side or right angle up. Not a fdn of cutting any of the sheetmetal but, no choice. I have never seen how the sheetmetal was notched and finished on a Diesel version. Are the edges Rolled for a nice clean edge? A close up picture of the area where the exhaust exits on the diesel versions would help me out. Thanks

How can the exhaust not run out the front? If I remember the pic you posted, it's a horizontally-opposed Briggs twin. A version of that was used in the 582 and the exhaust goes out the front.

The muffler is in front but the pipe runs out the side.

A muffler from a 580, 582, 582 special, 1604, and a couple other models I'm forgetting would bolt on. Or you could modify the KT-17 muffler with the manifolds on the muffler bolted to the 'new' engine. Lots of options other than cutting a hole in the side panel.

I hung on to the K17 muffler. Its an option. It would take a lot of manipulating to get the two intake ports on the K17 muffler to get to the exhaust on thd new motor in the space provided.
Im wondering how much baffling is in the B&S muffler. It would be easy to cap off the current tailpipe , drill a hole in the center of muffler and weld a pipe out forward. After im done with the driveshaft to flywheel adapter and placd the engine, i will see what room i have for exhaust options.
Any exhaust for a b&s twin that sat in the 582 does not show anything thst would work. My guess is Cub came up eith their own exhaust. Any Parts lookup for the b&s 401417 engine shows small individual mufflers. Just like the 422437 version im putting in. Id be more than happy with a drop-in.

This one is not too bad, looks new, prolly one of the sponsors may have a used one.

These parts from the 582 are Briggs part numbers and will bolt right up to that engine. 2x BS-691970 PIPE ASSY, EXHAUST [google says that number replaces BS-398349 shown below] and 1x BS-491307S EXHAUST MUFFLER. This is shown in the Cub Cadet Parts lookup:
