i just bought an early model 682, has a cast iron rear and internal brakes. i have had several different 82 series tractors but this one is different in that there doesnt seem to be a way to make the lift handle float. is there a way to make the lift lever float up and down or was it designed to lock at a specific setting only. thx

Douglass: The 682 is a garden tractor, and if it is early enough to have been made by International Harvester and not the Cub Cadet Corporation, you can post about it in the Main Forum, where I'm sure you'll get a response. If it was made by Cub Cadet Corporation, it will say so on the name plate on the side of the tractor above where your feet go, then you can post about it in the CCC/MTD section.

But to answer your question, I believe the lift was designed to either float or lock in place, like most of the garden tractors. The difference between the two settings is the installation of the "lock out pin" an optional accessory to the tractor. You have to remove the tunnel cover to access it, but once you remove cover and operate the handle, the location of the "lock out pin" should reveal itself. I believe it is covered in the operator's manual, which you can find posted in the manuals section from the "Topics" page.

Good luck, I'm sure you'll figure it out.
