582 Special/ D.O.W

Poor old IH Cub Cadet 582-special finaly gave its all.
Death reported as homicide as owner mistakenly charged battery in reverse for 24 hours than tried to start motor.
New key switch, replaced solenoid, no heart beat, not even a slite groan.

That old IH was a rare one, only one I know of with narrow front wheels.
It gave many a years of service mowing grass and other yard work needed.

I have a special but mine was painted Cub Cadet white and yellow. Did they make both colors? It has the belt clutch as opposed to the normal disc clutch.

Belt clutch and a 4 speed transmission, 16 hp twin briggs, as far as color it is entirely possible, I belive reds where sold at implement dealers and yellows sold by cub cadet dealers.

Used a 582 ( not special) Shaft drive 16 hp twin Briggs with a creeper gear 42 inch deck. Used it for many years, it survived the hurricane Ike flood. One of the best grass cutting cubs I ever owned.
kept it for 2 years after I got my 3235, didn’t want to sell it but it went to a good home and got a full restoration and it still cutting grass.

Hello Lonnie! Its been a while, sorry to hear of the loss of the 582 Special. I guess I gotta ask how much for the 582 Special?

With all the usable parts on it, I'd have to say $200, as it has the impossible to find narrow front 400-8 rims with 1in. bearings.

The ole 582 special went to its new home yesterday, with a bunch of loving tender care it should be revived and be able to put in a few more years of service.
