42 in deck

Would anyone have a good clear picture of the blade side of a42 in deck,specifically the baffles? Its off my127

Is this 42in mower deck quick release suppose to have this shim plate underneath it?

most need the shims to get the back of the deck down to level it,usually 1/4 " or more is needed !

Does the metal on a seal go to the inside or face the outside on a deck spindle?

Had to make new baffles,old ones were completely gone

Ask yourself..where does dirt,dust and grime come from..inside the spindle or outside??

The outside...all 6 of my seals have the rubber to the outside

I must offer,I was not thinking about "old style" tapered bearing spindle in my response.It's been quite a while since I've had one apart.Allison may be right, which really means I'm not sure....

Gary I didn't know if I was right or wrong,I just thought it odd they were already in backwards

At least one should be in backwards so the old grease can escape when the spindles are greased. They are both in backwards in that cross section view, but if it were mine, I'd put the top one in "correctly" and the bottom one in backwards so the old grease takes the path of least resistance out the bottom. Otherwise it'll get slung everywhere on top of the deck and could get into the belts, and will just generally make a mess.

The later spindles that use tapered roller bearings and two seals are like this, with the bottom seal in backwards.
