have a 2084 that slows down uphill. If I give it more forward lever it will speed back up. Loading up the power steering by moving the wheel all the way one way or the other also slows the speed slightly. forward/reverse lever is snug and stays in one spot. I also checked the trunnion and appears to be fine. springs are intact. Maybe they are weak? outer spring will move back and forth between the keepers but I was told this is normal? Could there be an internal problem? Pump seems fine I can spin the tires with ease. Any ideas? Thanks

Kevin: A friend called on Sunday with a similar problem. His dealer had suggested a new hydro filter and I had to agree that that seemed to me to be the quickest, cheapest place to start.

Welcome to the Forum, by the way and I hope someone kicks in with another suggestion and that you let us know what works.

I changed the fluid and installed a new cub oem filter. I am being told by alot of people that this is normal behavior for a hydro. Thanks

OK, I have a question. Or 2. How long have you used your 2084 and how many hours on it? I guess where I'm going with this is it something you just started noticing?

Story: Years ago (a lot of my stories start that way, now) my uncle bought a brand new Ford in New York State and drove it 550 miles to here. It had a squeak in the front end when he put the brakes on. He took it to a dealer and the best they could come up with was "Atmospheric Conditions". Years and miles later he sold the Ford and it still had the squeak.

"Slows down" is very subjective. The hydrostatic transmission is not 100% efficient, and there will be some slippage under high load. Some amount is normal.

Kevin - you specifically mentioned a Cub OEM filter but you didn't mention the type/brand of the new fluid. Please let us know. Also, how much of a hill are we talking about here?

Frank - your "story" from long ago (and far away from me) sounds like the era when Detroit factory workers were putting stuff into cars that wasn't supposed to be there. I had heard of a bottle being put into a box part of the frame and then welded over, and a marble being put into the lower part of a door panel and then covered so it couldn't be access. Not sure what sound you got from the bottle, but the marble would seem to roll backward and forward every time you start off and then slow/stop.

SGT's had higher charge pump pressure than the regular Cubs. Power steering use changes the charge pressure and can affect the "inlet" pressure to the main axial pump. It is not uncommon for tractors with power steering to have small hydro changes with steering wheel input....it is usually most noticeable when moving slowly at part throttle. The more worn the "core" of the hydro becomes, the more this effect is noticed.

Worn or softening trunion springs may also be contributing, slight wear on the buttons and trunion along with weakening springs can all add up in a tolerance "stack" to have small affects on hydro performance.

Your issue is likely a combo of both........

The fluid type I used is kubota hytran compatible fluid cub dealer said it's fine to use. I just bought this tractor so I can't answer the question of when it started or how long it's been doing this and the hill is quite small. Also the guy I got it from thought it had about 1200 hours on it. The hour meter reads 850 and he said it quit working but I found a wire unplugged to it and now it works fine so hours are really an unknown in my opinion

Im going to order new trunnion springs and buttons for it and see if that helps. If not I'm just going to live with the way it is.
