BTW, Charlie, does that have a 304 or 345? What tranny does it have?

Charlie...Wow, a runner!! That's great. Glad to hear your PS box was ok. Apparently that is a common problem with these creatures. Mine was kinda wiggling back and forth as you changed directions and caused erratic directional travel at highway speeds. The brace plate fixed that.

Jerry...Mine is a Manual 4x4 with a 345, A/C, PB, PS & stereo 8-track player. It once had a factory CB in it - the antenna ball is still there on the left rear fender...

I'll know more when I get my Line Setting Ticket from the U of Wisc. It seems that Navistar, who did provide them, shipped the microfilm rolls to the McCormick/IH archives. I'm guessing that Charlie can't read his either... On my 1210 Pickup, the ticket was on the back side of the glove box and while a bit yellowed with age, it looks nearly new. But the Scout II has it glued to the inside of the glove box door where it was subjected to 30 years of wear & tear..It's there but mostly illegible at this time...

I've had several drivers over the years and I've parted out several. Still have 3 Scouts that I'm keeping and 7 parts trucks that I need to clear out.

The keepers include a low mileage '79 Scout II, 304, 727; a '75 Scout II (The Beater) with a very radical 196 4-speed; and a basket case '79 Midas SSII. None of the keepers are road worthy right now, but the Beater should be within a year. The '79 will be next with quite a few mods. The Midas SSII may never live again, but I can't bring myself to scrap it.

Over the years, the '79 Scout II and the Beater have both done time as daily drivers. The Beater had a 345 & 727 back in those days. It was ugly but fast. We've also had a '73 1210 Travelette (392 4-speed with 35" BFG ATs) and an '80 Midas Traveler for drivers. I owned the last complete CVI Hot Stuff for several years. It was 1 of 4 built. I sold it because I had no desire to do a stock restoration.

Scouts are just as addictive as Cub Cadets, but they take way more time, space, and money.

Myron and Charlie:
I don't have a Scout, but I follow threads when I can and usually learn something...Today I learned "Man on Tractor"....I never realized or saw it 'till today, and I've been around IH products all my life.......

Jerry, I will agree that IH trucks and Scouts are as addicting as Cub Cadets. I was happy with my 74 200 pickup. Then I got a 71 1210 Travelette. I will be putting 4 wheel drive under the Travelette and will drop the "new" MV446 in it. Here are a couple pics.

Kendell,
I always just thought it looked like a narrow front Farmall like a Super M. Black was the tires and red was the body/frame. Never thought about the I dot being a guys head though.

Well I actually got everything fixed up enough to go play in the snow today.

It didn't do to bad for being stuck in 2 wheel drive, LOL
183253.jpg

I'll have to get back under it and see what's keeping it from engaging I guess.
But it was still kinda fun to play with.

Way to go Charlie!... O'course, now you're hooked..

. Like someone else said, Scouts are about as addictive as Cub Cadets...

Charlie, you better quickly paint that thing yellow! I can foresee an 'accident' happening to your vehicle in the middle of the night caused by a bunch of jealous Cubbies!

Allen S... Naaah.. Based on the 1978 IH color chart, Charlie's Scout II is IH 6787 Concord Blue. Genuine IH original paint. It's compatable with IH 483 Federal Yellow... They live in harmony...

Allen: Kraig's Scout is IH 4414 Siam Yellow..It would clash with Federal Yellow don't you think??...

Scouts: I'll never hear about or see a Scout without thinking of an old (to me, at the time) mechanic friend. Herb Macintosh (God rest his soul) told me back in the late '60's that if the Scout drivetrain had a Jeep body we'd have a vehicle that would last. That comment was prompted by how prone the Scouts were to rust. If I'm not mistaken, when the Scout is in 4 wheel drive all 4 tires will spin and not so on the Jeeps. Get ér locked in, Charlie, and see if I'm right.

Myron, yes, Kraigs yellow is more mellow(oops, a rhyme), not as loud as school bus yellow. Then again a Cub's engine bark is louder than a Scouts. So I 'spose they can live in harmony. (But Charlies Scout is still blue...fair game to the little ones!!)

edit: The blue and yellow can live in harmony? Have to see how the stars align!

The hubs are locked in, and the shifter is in 4 High, but only the backs turn.
I'm bettin it's a linkage problem, OR, it's just tired and broke internally somewhere.
Also, I can't get the shifter to move to 4 Low. It's a project for a warmer day. LOL

Sounds like a linkage problem--hopefully external. IIRC, if the shift rod isn't engaging the front output, the interlock pills won't let the other shift rod move into low range. What makes you confident that the shifter is in 4-HI?

Cause it's pulled back as far as it will go.

It will go into 2 Hi and Neutral, but won't go all the way forward into 2 Low.
