Took an 1863 axle apart, cleaned it up, and painted it yellow. I don't know the direction to replace the splined steering arm. More questions about replacing the steering column with this in a 122. Sure would appreciate some advice please. Thanks.

I see it has a key way, so it lines up with the key.

Not a keyway...the collar is split so tightening the bolt will clamp the spline to the external splines on the spindle.

As to how to orient it, parallel to the axle is probably a good starting point.

Thanks for your help. I have to be careful since one arm jams very quickly on the splined spindle, maybe the paint getting down past the duct tape. I'm working on two axles, one has a bent drag link, the other a straight one. Which one is used for where? I'm putting one on a 122 and one on a 169. Both the tie rod and drag link have RH threads at each end, is this common?

I would clean all of the paint out of the splines. Drag link looks straight in the parts lookup, so I'd say that one got bent somehow. All of them have RH threads only.
