A friend dropped off a well used 1861 over the weekend, wondered if I could get it running.
Unit will run on carb cleaner sprayed into the carb inlet and that's all.
Question is this, what makes the fuel pump operate? I assume the line w/the filter is the intake. Where does the other 2 go?

Is it electrical?, can find no wires that go to it.
Before I start taking things apart, how can I test the pump to be sure it's working.
Plan on renewing the complete fuel delivery system to the carb.

Thanks guys

It uses crankcase vacuum , the hose that fits on the center position goes to a fitting on the block For reference, it is in the 6:30 position Several factors affect vacuum, such as a loose filler cap, engine wear and even overfilled crankcase Dave.
Now, you can use another pump or simply install a low pressure electrical like a Facet brand with a max pressure of 3 psi, 1 to 3 is the only range that works well. Searching the threads here will reference guys using these frequently, and I think* that Charlie sells 'em at a good price.

*not my strong suit lol

I think I'd switch to an electric pump. I have not had good luck with the vacuum-operated pumps in the past.

Thanks Guys!
I did manage to get it running.
I disconnected the filter and blew it clean, them
ran a hose from the filter into a jug of clean fuel and it started and ran.
Going to instruct the owner that a full fuel system removal and thorough cleaning is necessary in this case as well as new fuel line hose.
