Well it's a sad day. Cutting grass with my pride and joy 1811 and this happened:

As soon as it happened I knew it was bad. What are my option here? New engine, new block? Any suggestions will be greatly sppreciated.

Welcome to the club.

I had a rod launch in a KT in one of my 782s. I ended up doing a Command swap. Assuming your tractor is in good shape the swap is worth the effort. I'm very pleased with mine.

What size command engine did you use? I would have to get someone to change it out for me. There's no way I would attempt it. Other than the engine, my 1811 is in great shape.

as scooby doo would say,,, rut roh shaggy

but what did it sound like, just curious

hope you find a replacement

A clunk and a jerk and then smoke. It was a bad sound. I knew immediately what it was. I said a few colorful words and then had to apologize to the preacher's wife that lives next door that heard the whole thing.

Can you tell me how many hours is on the engine. I am curious cuz I have an 1811 with 1753 hours and I changed the oil over to full synthetic 3 years ago, working great so far. I bought this new in 1990. They are a hell of a tractor. Tom

It had 1290 hours on it. I bought it less than a year ago and don't know much of any history on it. I was religious about the oil and trans fluid. I don't know how it was treated before I got it.

I do not know where you live but I know a guy in Ohio that has a Cub Cadet junkyard, he may have a good block for that
Alabama. A little too far. I'm going to start looking but won't be able to afford to get anything done for a while.

Yeah that is too bad hope no one ever changed the govenor speed and it may have been just neglegted before you got it, the oil must be changed in an air cooled engine.

I was just looking at a green one with that same hole . The aluminum rod doesn't make enough noise when loose before it breaks.

I went with an 18hp Command from I think a 2185 (it's what was available at the time). Would you do a Magnum swap on your own if you found a good used one? The Command isn't much harder. Make a driveshaft, locate the engine on the plate, wire & fuel it and figure out an exhaust and it's running and working. Stuff is out there to make it look and work like OEM.

This is from Small Engine Warehouse. I have no connection with them at all (never even bought anything there). For a repower I wouldn't even consider anything other than a Vanguard. I have em, I run em, I love em.

While we may have sold many engines listed above to be used for a Cub Cadet 1811 Category Category, we are NOT claiming these are exact replacements unless the product notes explicitly say so. Many original equipment engines may no longer be in production because of obsolescence or EPA regulations, so in some cases there may not be an exact replacement available. Our intention here is to show that other customers have utilized these in the equipment shown, but may have had to make some modifications to do so. If we know of any required changes, we will list those, however, some adapting during installation should be expected.

Yeah, well if you want to pay for shipping he would do that.

Great information. Thanks so much.

I am in the final stage of installing a Vanguard engine in my 1811 Cub, replacing the Kohler, and the problems I had from the engine I got from Small Engine Warehouse is I had to do work on both the choke and throttle cables, the gas line due to routing differences. Still working on the throttle cable. The other problem I had was mounting the electric clutch had some issues and the air cleaner cover comes up against the gas tank mounting support so tight that I cannot remove the cover without removing the two bolts and pulling that support to the rear! However, I started the engine for the first time yesterday and it runs very nicely. Going from 18 to 23 hp, will I be able to do wheelies?
