I have some printed parts manuals but that's a lot of pages to be scanning in...

David and Kraig and Sean - you guys are confusing me, but it may have started with Sean stating he was missing the "J bracket" on the right.

Sean stated he was "missing the "J" bracket on the right. To me I thought Sean was missing that "J" shaped adjusting bolt that is shown on the right side in Kraig's pics - however, it would be considered on the right side if you were sitting on the tractor with the mule drive mounted.

Next, David goes on to state:
"I believe the "J" bracket was added at that point to keep that pulley from "wandering" as the adjustment rod was the only thing that kept it in place prior to that. I just may be all wet here but that's what it looks like to me according to the parts look up. If so, I stand corrected "

That made me think David was referring to the "Idler Ratchet" that I believe is more "L" shaped (not J shaped), especially since the "J" shaped Adjusting Bolt was used a long time before the Idler Ratchet came along.

As part of that statement David also said "the adjustment rod was the only thing that kept it in place prior to that." To me the only adjustment rod is the "J" shaped "Adjusting Bolt" shown in Kraig's pic (from the manual). The "L" shaped Idler Ratchet doesn't adjust anything. All it does is quickly release the belt tension so the belt can be removed.

So here is what I'm wondering:
Is Sean missing the "L" shaped "Idler Ratchet" or is he missing the "J" shaped Adjusting Bolt?

And finally, David also stated: "I just may be all wet here but that's what it looks like to me according to the parts look up."
I think David is actually all wet if he is referring to the "L" shaped Idler Ratchet. I don't see how the Idler Ratchet keeps the pulley from wandering. Prior to the Idler Ratchet there was only the Adjusting Bolt with a Spring that applied tension and if you wanted to remove the belt you had to unscrew and unscrew and unscrew and unscrew and unscrew the nut on the Adjusting Bolt. :errrr:

Hahahaha - Well David, I didn't say anything about an "L-shaped Idler Bracket either. I said L-shaped Idler "Ratchet", since IH calls it a Ratchet.

Sean first stated he was missing the J-shaped bracket and it was on the RIGHT. The only part I see that is "J" shaped is the Idler Adjusting Bolt. The Idler Ratchet is "L" shaped.

So David - don't put your towel back in the closet. You said "How do you mistake a bolt for a bracket anyway? " I don't know. What I do know is the only thing "J" shaped is the "Adjusting Bolt" (which is the IH name for it). The Idler Ratchet, what you called "J" bracket, is "L" shaped when you compare it to the shape of the Adjusting Bolt.

That's exactly why I was getting confused. Here's a pic of the L-shaped Idler Ratchet and a pic of the J-shaped Adjusting Bolt (pics courtesy of CC Specialties)

Dang it - I've been referring to Steve as Sean. Sorry about that.

And - based on other pics Steve posted in the other thread he started (titled 1450 Ratchet Idle Adjuster) we can now see the Mule Drive he got is NOT for a 1450. It appears to me to be for an 82 series tractor. You can clearly see it has the 5/8" wide belt pulleys. It has double slots on each side where the ends of the tension springs are held in place. I don't know enough about mule drives for 82's to tell the other parts. Hopefully Kraig can post some additional pics of a 1450 Mule Drive.

However, before we know which is the correct Mule Drive for Steve's 1450 we also need to know what deck size he has.

I agree, it's NOT for a 1450 judging by the size of the pulleys.
I don't think I have ever seen a yellow mule drive for an 82 series Cub, thought they were all white, mine are and I should have notices the difference,
It's best to research before one buys to avoid these kind of situations.
Dragging this out with all these one line posts just adds to the confusion even more IMHO

I gotta go find something to dry off with as it is -9* outside!!

Dave - it's probably for something newer than the 82 series. I really just said for the 82 series since I saw the 5/8" belt pulleys and the J shaped Idler Ratchet. And besides that I gotta couple towels for ya next to my real toasty fireplace.

Toasty we need here this AM!
It just now gota few degrees above the zip-zero-nada mark!!

I decided it wasn't that cold so I stopped at the farm on my way home from work and took some photos of my 1450 deck hanger. It's been stored in a pole barn for a few years that also has horse stalls and hay so it's pretty dusty and covered with cob webs. The first two photos show it with the ratchet pushed back:

This one has the ratchet released:
