128 charge or not charging

i have a 128 with a dead battery.i get it started by jumping the battery with my battery charger.i took the a wire the (a) off the starter /generator and the motor shut off.when i had the motor running a put a test light on the battery and it lit up {12 volt test ligh}.my question is my starter 'generator bad or the voltage regulator bad. is there a way to check the voltage regulator?thanks for yopur help

Troy the 128 is an ih cub cadet. Please post your question on the main forum board and im sure somwboday can direct you in proper diagnosis of you charging issue

Excuse me I meant to say it is a GARDEN tractor not a lawn tractor
