1200 electrical

Hey guys! Long time no see! I pretty much entirely gave up on the 800, but I couldn’t get rid of the cub bug. Earlier this week I picked up a 1200 that’s pretty much entirely there besides a few

small things, and it came with a snow plow and mower deck to boot! I attempted to get it started tonight and was unable to get it to turn over with the key. I was able to jump the starter solenoid so I replaced it with the new one I had on hand as well as a new ignition. Still no dice. After rooting around I found 2 yellow wires taped together and I’m wondering if it was a sensor that got broken or just some wires that got torn off something. It was hanging pretty low near the drive shaft. If Anyone has some advice it would be greatly appreciated.

No sensors, but I would say they the two wires going to the LH Brake Safety Switch. Normally, the brake pedal would have to be depressed to roll the engine over. Some people jumper those two wires, and bypass that.

My bet is on a bad PTO switch. I have experienced several fail, if bad they will not allow the key switch to send current to the solenoid.

You can see the clip right there on the frame X member, where the wires are supposed to be secured that lead to the switch.

Looks like that thing has never had a bath.

It’s missing nearly everything, I was unable to get it to turn over at all and a full restoration with the correct parts would be too expensive currently. Most of the new parts I got for the 800 go right on the 1200. The 1200 has been stored inside most of its life while my 800 did around 10 years of sitting in the weeds, and probably needs a full restoration. Currently talking to someone local about possibly selling it.

I didn’t know that was a thing! I have a new switch on the way now! Hopefully that fixes it when it gets here tomorrow so that I can move on to the next inevitable issue!

I meant to say switch rather than sensors, and thank you! I thought that it has to do with a brake safety or something I’m going to see if its possible to reconnect it but if I am unable to should it still work if they are tied together?

If they are tied together the circuit is complete. If you wire in the clutch/brake switch you could potentially introduce another variable.

Just remember, if safety switches are bypassed, YOU are the safety. Nothing will go wrong, IF you (and ALL operators) follow safe procedures ALL the time. People don't get shot by guns that are always pointed in a safe direction. The safety features are there because no-one is perfect.
