Years ago one winter we ran old bikes on the ice. Just used sheet metal screws in all the blocks in the tire. You could pull wheelies on ice that you could barely stand on it was so slippery. Maybe they'd work for traction. And cheaper
You will still spin on a hard surface and scar it up, if that is an issue.
Chains are great on gravel or bare ground, not so much on hard surfaces including frozen ground.

I used these on the front tires of my atv. The atv is 4wd so they do rip out every now and then. They would mark up paved or concrete driveways. I got them to help plow and ice fishing with the atv.
