This has probably been addressed before, but here goes. I need to put a new clutch in a 106 10 hp tractor. Is there an easier way than pulling the motor out? Maybe removing front cowl and sliding the motor a little forward give enough space? I haven't turned a wrench yet, just want to get a plan first. I looked on several sites and most parts are unavailable. Not surprising for a 50 year old tractor. Don't make them like that anymore.
Thanks

Pull the engine Mike.
Not a big deal, only 4 bolts.
Get that out of the way and you can stand the little guy right up on its tail to address the rear coupler pins.
Closely inspect everything, you may just find other things that need attention such as the throw out lever & hanger, teaser spring, front coupler etc.
Check the lower section of the cowl as well for cracks around the hanger

Good luck!
Down load the manual for your Cub from the manuals section.

Mike - you said "I looked at several sites and most parts are unavailable. Not surprising for a 50 year old tractor".
I'm pretty certain you didn't check CC Specialties (listed in those colorful boxes at the top of the page). I just looked and I think Charlie has every clutch and driveline part you might need, and probably many you don't need.

Have a look at this page.
CUB CADETs New Old Stock NOS IH-132310-C1 922-3001 722-3001 flex coupling hydro gear drive IH-148150 shaft Throw Out bearing Creeper Clutch Disc Spline Axle Hytran
Make sure you check for your specific part numbers, but also note Charlie has several new and improved items.

YEP, You can be sure Charlie will have your new clutch parts for your Cubbie. Sounds like he may be the ONLY place now, and he ships quick.
I'm going to disagree with Dave S, loosen the engine and only slide it forward, far as it will go. It's worked for me on my 70 & 72. No need to remove the engine. You might need to disconnect pto clutch linkage to move it far enough, the S&G pulley & muffler has to be touching the grill casting. Wires, gas tank, fuel line all stay connected.
Oh, and a ratcheting GEAR WRENCH, straight version, the kind you have to flip over to reverse are absolutely positively the right tool for the four 3/8" capscrews holding the engine in place.
