wow, look what i started. all i know is, i used to be able to leave gas in for that season. lawn mower could have gas in it all summer. now, i cant even leave gas in it over night, without stabilizer. the mechanic blamed the gas, took his advice, have not had a problem. to be fair to...- fsnerd

just tried test light on + side and - side of coil during cranking. very little drop on + side . blinks on and off on - side. i do not think i can go any further until i clean the carb, which will probably be Thursday. i really think i need to eliminate a gummy carb before i go any...- fsnerd

testing for spark at the spark plug on the K301. besides holding the coil wire, or plug, close to ground, or using an inductive spark plug wire tester, is there any way to test for spark? i can not use a voltmeter, can i ? isnt the voltage too high? just wondering if it would be a good...- fsnerd

"Frank: If it was a bad ignition switch, it'd drop out totally during cranking - as a matter of fact, get a 12 volt test light and make sure that it isn't dropping out while cranking - a test light is easier to detect that with than a meter. "Frank...Is the fuel filter for a gravity feed system ? " yes. this was mentioned before. it is an automotive, fuel pump type filter. but. i had the stalling problems before i added the filter. so, i doubt that is the problem. "is it losing spark for sure when it quits ? " I do not know...- fsnerd

yes, i use a gas stabilizer. also have a non cadet inline fuel filter. but , hey, who knows. cleaning the carb is worth a try.- fsnerd

my 128 with the stalling problem. i just put a voltmeter on it. 12v at battery terminals. with key off,no power to coil + terminal. key on, 12v at coil + terminal. this is an improvement, before i replaced the wiring harness, i had no power to the coil. with points closed, no...- fsnerd

Richard Palmer the carb that is on it now is new. it did not change engines. "this carb has less then 8 hours on it" means it ran for about 8 hours on this engine since it was installed new, not that i got a used carb with only 8 hours on it. in case that is what confused you. when first...- fsnerd

Wayne Shytle - i do not have another, working carb. i have the original, which leaked a lot of gas. stuck floats, i assume. it appeared to be the original carb, so i did not play with it, just replaced it. this carb has less then 8 hours on it, but i suppose something could have gummed it...- fsnerd

thanks everyone for giving me some hope that a converter terminal exists. i will go looking for one. that would be the easiest route. Mike Myers (Mdmyers) - i have a similar problem with a 128. although mine stalls when hot. while checking adjustments, i lost the spark. I too trouble shot it...- fsnerd

i thought about cutting the terminals off the wiring harness, but it is new. I hate to do that. especially if i ever replace the regulator and it has the spade type terminals. everything on this tractor is old, and something has been causing it to stall, so I have already replaced half the...- fsnerd
