Dave Ross (Dross) - back yard is not THAT steep. not so steep you cant drive the tractor sideways on it. it is better described as uneven. i would not call it any steeper then driving up onto a trailer. or even a wheel chair ramp. the grass grows twice as fast in the back, front yard as...- fsnerd

thanks for the responses, here are my answers, KENtuckyKEN (Kweaver)- i have the service manual, I already set it to the specs, but it says I might still have to move the spring, as each engine is a little different. again, it ran fine until i started hitting heavy grass. not too heavy, but...- fsnerd

thanks for the part #, but that is listed as "15/32 X 30 SL ". does that mean 30" long? i just want to be sure that is the right part #, as 30" sounds about twice as long as i need.- fsnerd

i had no idea a 5 gal bucket would be enough. thanks, i will try that. i was thinking more like a 55 gallon drum filled with crap. but, i would need a way to attach it to the tractor. the rod snapped at the threads, about 1" from the turn buckle, that is why i am thinking i might be able...- fsnerd

yes. the rod broke. i have oxy/acetylene torches and an arc welder, but i am afraid if take them out i will chop the tractor into pieces, stuff in garbage bags and dump in the ocean. like a serial killer. i ordered the new rod, but i am going to check today to see if there is enough...- fsnerd

timed with a timing light. i figured out as soon as you guys mentioned the backfiring you were not understanding it was occurring after it stalled at full throttle. since the exhaust has been repaired, it has not stalled, or backfired. furnace cement was suggested by guys on here, so dont...- fsnerd

it was timed when it was stalling. the backfiring was only occurring when it stalled at full throttle. now that it does not stall, i just cut the throttle back to idle before shutting it down. they are calling for 6-10" of snow by Sunday noon. i will be sure to post pics of whatever...- fsnerd

more on the backfiring, i read somewhere about lowering the idle and waiting a minute before shutting it off to avoid a backfire on shut off. shutting it off that way stopped the backfire on shut off. it only backfired on a stall. since the temporary repair of the exhaust leak, it has not...- fsnerd

i believe the backfiring was part of the exhaust leak which was causing the stalling when hot. so, i am going to apply furnace cement today to fix the exhaust leak, which should solve the backfiring. but, im not done on here yet, stand by for stupid snow thrower questions, i think i am...- fsnerd
