    More 1872 questions

Paul, An easy way to check it is to jack up the front axle off the ground then try it. On occasion the spindles will get tight in the axles and need to be removed and cleaned up, especially if it sat outdoors for any length of time. Also while raised spin the wheel full left and right to...

    1641 Ignition Switch

Jeremiah, you are 100% correct, what with all the plastic dashes and powder coated metal it was required to have. You will not cause any problems if you do want to add a ground lead to it.

1863 Amp charge light , when pto is on. After new battery install

Dave, Typically it is a faulty voltage sensor #925-3251 that gives these errors. Small round item attaches to frame with one bolt. That also grounds it, so you may have the usual troublesome ground issue with it. Back out the bolt and clean for a good ground and retry. If no change replace it...

    Matching carburetors for Kohler engine

Mark, be certain that no current is going to the white "kill" wire of the ign. module, they simply won't take that very long before they die. Not sure if the off position on the switch grounds it? Test the switch in all positions and be sure that no current is present, first of all. Then...

    The day finally came!

Jim, A very nice job on the paint and all else you did to make that 782D better than new! I have had discussions with others over the heating issues these tractors experience, by that I mean all the D600 and d640 equipped Cub cadets. This is not unique to our favorite brand, but to the engine in...

Please note that the 1782 I had listed earlier has been sold. Thank you Charlie, for the privilege of posting it here.

Later series Cub Cadet 1782 diesel. Includes 48" mower, plus soft side cab and model 551 snow thrower. Want to sell as a package deal. My personal tractor which was at a plow day or two. Everything works well, a little elbow grease will return the shine, but blower needs a repaint (like all of...

All the Magnum singles did have cast iron blocks. Many of the improvements were already listed, big a big one not mentioned was the crankshaft. Where the K series used a cast iron crankshaft, The Magnum had a much stronger crank, can't recall if a forged or nodular iron part.

The reason Kohler spec'd the straight weight oil was because those are splash lube engines; that spec even included the Magnum engines. Concerns about gas dilution with only splash lube are worrisome since the oil must reach the valve area, along with the camshaft which are above the oil...

Tom, You sure have to like those, cold or not they look like fun. We used to joke about them being large enough to run a deck blade nut on!

    The day finally came!

Jim, Several of our members have used a relay to power up the glow plugs. They say it really helps, as it allows more amperage to them. Glow plugs are sort of "throw-away" items in my book. The Kubota and Yanmar use the same ones, I found them cheaper from Deere(!) If you use the green guys...

    1050 engine mounts

These were unique to the 1050. As far as what they do, the purpose is to absorb the sudden shock load when the pto is engaged. A similar design was used on the Quietline models, the 1282/680 and others with single cylinder engines mounted on the "iso-mount" When the electric pto was engaged...

    2185 oil problem

Joe, The plug I referred to is an internal plug for machining the oil galley. While part, double check that as well. It is strange to have the relief valve stuck open, but anything is possible.

    2185 oil problem

Joe, That is a unique one. I am very curious as to what you'll find so please keep us posted. Since you will need to remove the engine closure plate, or front cover, you will be able to see into the crankcase. At the flywheel end of the block, near the cam bearing is a small "freeze" plug...

I have 1864 with 645 hrs and it has a little oil under air filter

You probably diagnosed it correctly with the reed. Some had split/cracked which allowed that to happen. Others did not have a good sealing surface where the reed seats down. When installing it avoid twisting the reed by tightening the bolt. If the sealing surface is poor, erosion or void in...
