    1512 Turbo plow tractor project

Rick, if you can borrow the shop's thread chaser ( a bottoming tap style) you may also want to chase the threads in the block as you do each washer. Just a small dab of grease to carry the debris out works great. Good luck and best wishes on this project

    1512 Turbo plow tractor project

Rick, here is my thought FWIW. If you look at the length of the head bolts and measure the O/A "thickness" of the head and the tapped holes on a Kubota, you have like zero tolerance to work with. I am serious, the bolts are practically bottoming out "as issued" and any tolerance stack can...

Rick, is the coolant leak internal or external?

    18Mag vs 18Command

Or just switch the dash and use all the 82 series sheetmetal too. If the plastic hoods and such are decent please don't discard them as I am looking for some at a fair price. Note, when you switch the dash be sure to use the 1862 keyswitch and wiring.

    1864 transmission lever

The purpose of the fiber washer is to keep tension on the lever (how easy/hard it moves) but without it you may see some play also. Usually if a lot of play is present, it is wise to examine the linkage for the ball joints being loose. I had the retaining nut come loose on one tractor. While...

    CH18S Muffler Shield Part# Needed

Here is the 1864 muffler stuff: Unfortunately it is NLA from Cub, they are getting terrible about parts for these 1990's tractors!!

    CH18S Muffler Shield Part# Needed

Yup, searched the Kohler parts info and that muffler and associated parts did not come with the engine; MTD/CC supplied the muffler stuff. Just contact a CC dealer and have him search for it under the tractor models 1863 or 1864.

    CH18S Muffler Shield Part# Needed

That would be a 1863 or 1864 tractor spec, look up the heart shield on the CC parts access in the color boxes at the top of the home page here. That was a unique to CC muffler and heat shield if I recall correctly. The muffler is more narrow than a standard Kohler muffler and may have been...

    46GT deck vs. 44C

I have owned many 48 and 54" decks for the later Cubs you refer to. The 54" is far superior in cut quality over the 48, to be honest. Yes, they really work well. As far as the 44C vs. the 46" deck, I agree with Matt that the 46" will give a somewhat nicer cut, but it is not in the same league...

My 1512 diesel gets some upgrades

Don, how ya doing now, any better? We are all wishing you the best! If you can stand a bad humor from me, a COPD episode is like a naturally aspirated diesel but breathing well is like that turbo in the box! Seriously man, get well soon and follow the doc's orders (ok, that may be asking too...

    FUEL PUMP

Typically in the 1.5 to 2 psi max range; any more will push the needle off the seat in the carb and cause flooding and rough running. I think you are correct that Facet offers one, but you may want to check with Kirk Engines, among others, who stock a great one at a good price. See the colorful...

My 1512 diesel gets some upgrades

Don, I hope that you are feeling better soon, and can get some shop time once again. It is not fun seeing the doctors, even if she is a pretty young thing it'll still hurt the pocketbook.

    882 series VIN tage question....

The 882 was a one year wonder, in 1985 it became the 1512 as you noted. Personally I like the hood decal of the 882 better, looks great!!

My 1512 diesel gets some upgrades

Don, you can use a banjo bolt as seen on evilpay, try a metric capscrew but I believe you need a 10mm one. They aren't expensive. The drain fitting may have been on the one I sent, if not these are simple to make or buy (same place) The oil pressure line can also be purchased there, I went with...

    PTO and Battery Light

Probably the "voltage sensor" or Cub used quite a myriad of names for these over the years. It is attached to the frame, probably near the dash battery tray area. If it does not have a good ground it will give false readings and the light comes on too easily. Attaches with a single screw...

    Archive through September 25, 2014

Randy, that Kohler spec was used in the 2185 tractor, one of the 2000 series of the later 1990's and earlier 2000's vintage. Very good engine. Not a "kit" offered by Kohler for rebuilding it, it is a replace as needed as far as overhauling them goes. Typical issue was with bad head gaskets...

KOHLER COMMAND 20 VERSES COMMAND PRO 22.5

While the engine footprint is identical, you must understand the Kohler system with engines. Each series such as a Command 20 horizontal has many different specs, in fact there may be quite a few differences. Some things, such as crankshaft diameter and length, as well as wiring harness are...

    2135 overheating???

Most likely suspect is the ignition module (cd ign. unit)These were known to have that symptom after awhile. Gets warm and shuts down, let it cool and it works fine. That is where I would look first.

    Kawasaki FD-620D-AS21 compression check question

No ACR. Do a basic compression check, throttle wide open of course. Cheers!
