Brian B, When you install the main bearings please verify that the oil hole is located properly. The vendor had shipped a few that were not, dealers were notified to check stock but just to be safe double check

Cub Cadet 2160 won't run when gets warm

2160 would definitely have a vented fuel cap. Another cause may be a sticky valve, not uncommon with these when the engine is warm. Fuel deposits on the valve stems can cause that condition. Try adding a good dose of Sea-Foam to your fuel to see if that helps. Better yet, drain that tank and...

Agreed, ag lug tires were a dealer installed option not a factory option. Even the OT MTD/CCC tractors never had the factory installed option of ags, they were a dealer installed option as far as 1997.

    2166 engine acting up

Gary, That is the B/S twin cylinder 16Hp Overhead valve engine in yours, correct? One problem that they faced was the "sticking valves when hot" syndrome, due to the ethanol content of the gasoline. It doesn't matter which food source the ethanol was derived from (corn, sugar beets etc)all...

1554 Drive pulley for trans.on motor removal.

If you have a means to lift the front of the tractor in the air, you can wrap a heavy chain around the pulley and give it a "snap" several times; the pulley generally slides off using that method. The chain acts like a slide hammer as it imparts an impact to the pulley. Best method I've found...

Dennis, Tecumseh Sno-King winter engines! I worked there also, sad to see them falter and close. Just too hard to beat B/S on volumes I guess. The 8 HP Sno-king actually exceeded it's rating, it was closer to 9 than 8; when is the last time you saw that on any small engine?

    Wheelhorse

Similar to MTD getting Cub Cadet years ago, when Toro bought out Wheel Horse the writing was on the wall. Another proud, quality tractor brand was eventually phased out. Cubs remained IH influenced until the 1997/98 switchover to the 3000 series, prior models were essentially 682 and 982 models...

    Big Mower Decks- Opinions???

The 1863 and other late model Cub Cadets used the same frame style as the 782. The only major difference was the super-steer front axle. These later models all were available with the 54" deck, which I have also on my 1782 and 2084 Supers. Great mowing decks, but nothing beats the 60" Haban...

    HDS-3185 OVER HEATING

Mark, You may have a broken baffle in the muffler, which would increase backpressure and cause that problem. That is not uncommon. The second cause may be an air leak into the muffler, such as a seam or pipe leaking air into the muffler. which creates a blast furnace effect and makes the...

    Backfires

Yes, the old post was a surprise, now to refresh everyone's memory one last time: The carburetor on todays engine has a shutoff solenoid. It closes when the key is switched to the "off" position. It functions by closing the main jet, or high speed jet. That, and that alone is the reason the...

    My NEW 782D

Joseph, I would suspect that the paper shims may have crumbled up when the bearing plate was loose. Depending on whether they are "gone" your endplay may be too tight, or alternately if they are all bunched up your bearing plate may not have pulled in squarely to the block. Ball bearings do...

    I was ripped off

Rick, Sorry to learn of the problems you had. The 1170 was not a "real" Cub Cadet however, it was labeled a "Cadet" only and was made for marketing by the big box stores primarily. It was a 100% MTD model except for the paint and is not truly representative of actual Cub Cadet quality. The...

    Command 18 swap into a 782 (wiring)

Josh, The relay is added for this engine swap. You can use the CC # 725-1375 relay or one from any auto parts store that has the terminals (5) numbered 30, 85, 86, 87 and 87A rated at 10 amps or greater.

Steve, I like the electrical pump solution with one caveat; any pump MUST be in the 1.5-3 PSI range, no higher. These are harder to find, of course, although they are out there. Kohler does sell one. If a higher pressure pump is used it will force the needle off the seat in the carb and...
