IH Cub Cadet Pulling and Hot Rodding

Don, That's what I thought. It didn't appear as there would be any head gasket material left to seal on the side opposite the valves. Thanks, Kenny

Don, Wyatt, Dave, On Brian Miller's site he says you can overbore a 14 to fit a 16 piston and still use the 14 crank due to the fact that the piston weighs the same. I have a 14 with a +.0333 bore on it. Has anyone tried this before? Kenny

Rob, It says it on the bottle, I converted and use 60ml to 5 gallons of fuel, which is about 2 oz. to 5 gallons. That's what I've used for years. Kenny

Scott M., I use MMO in all my gas, mix it when I fill the 5 gallon jug up. I've rebuilt a few engines with sticky exhaust valves. I'd also check under the exhaust valve for carbon. Sometimes when they stick they like to get buggered up with carbon on the seat. If you have the time, take the...

Thanks Dave, Where in the manual? The TP-2379 manual? I can't find it in mine, it just says follow the included instructions. That's what I get for using aftermarket stuff, but ALWAYS a genuine Kohler Rod. Kenny

Don, Wyatt, Only 'cause the set of rings I have don't look like the instructions; regarding the top and second rings, I know the chrome rimmed ring is the top with the id chamfer facing up, but the second cast iron oil ring doesn't have a scraper groove on the od, just an id chamfer. I usually...

Don, Does anyone offer custom pistons for the K Series? I have a 14 hp block that was gouged and when all was said and done cleaned and honed to +.0333 oversize. I've checked a few pistons and all the .030 over ones I've measured (just below the oil ring land, 90 degrees from the pin) are...

Tom R., Take the head off and make sure you don't have a heavy buidup of carbon under the exhaust valve holding it partially open. I always use MMO, I mix it with my fuel (60ML to 5 gals). Some guys use a capfull in the fuel tank with each fill up. Also check for a .020 gap on the points, a...

Calvin, Remove the (2) O-rings and Nylon backup ring from each valve, soak overnight in PB Blaster, then rinse good to clean with Acetone and blow them out good with compressed air. An ultrasonic jewelry cleaner works great but not many people have one. Then reassemble with new Nitrile (Buna-N)...

Dan, Too much trouble for the gain (or possible loss) in my opinion. I never put them back unless a customer wants (begs) me too. Kenny

Ryan, I think the wheels are Dodge Intrepid. I saw one at Mow Day 2002 on a Deere 110.

Ryan, I have that exact same compressor, you can keep the oiless ones! My neighbor would shoot me if I turned it on between 11pm and 7am. And it is in a concrete basement! One of my fittings had a slight leak, didn't know it till 3 am one morning when the low pressure switch kicked it on. I...

Dave, Aren't the 10 and 12 the same head? I've had many apart and they don't look different. Don, care to clarify? Kenny

Kevin, Are both cam and crank endplays within spec?

Dave D., Make sure you install the correct locating washer on the crank bolt. This is a precision washer that radially locates the drive cup concentric to the crank when using a Magnum Crankshaft on a Cub. It should have a nice fit to the Drive Cup hole and be pretty snug on the fine thread...

That would make it a #607 Woodruff Key.

Dave D., What you have is a Magnum Crank which takes a 3/16 wide woodruff key, the one I have on my bench measures about .850 long, I'll look up what number woodruff that corresponds to, or just measure one at the hardware store. Kenny

Tim D, I had a customer engine knock because he shaved the head and decked the block so much the valves just missed the head. Too much compression for regular unleaded I guess, sounded like a diesel. Lots of nice aluminum piston flakes in there when I disassembled it. It only knocked at full...

Kraig, The KT17 is actually in a buddies' Green machine. From reading the manual, I believe that the seals were only on late KT's, and only on the intake valve guide. He was complaining of oil seepage on the intake guide, I suggested replacing the guide and ream for the proper fit to the...
