    QA42A Snowthrower Refurbish

I do that with mine and I do think it helps. Think about it. The engine is blowing all that hot air right on the discharge chute of the thrower, why wouldn't it cause a problem. I use the graphite paint too.

Remove and Replace Drive Shaft on 127 Cub Cadet

I think the write up on how to do it was on this site some years ago and it was something I saved on my PC. Shaft alignment is more critical with the old setup.

Remove and Replace Drive Shaft on 127 Cub Cadet

I converted my 147 to the later rag joint coupler. No more worries about pins or the slot in the front coupler wearing.

    Cork Gasket Sealant

They have improved the cork gasket by adding some type of rubber. I buy rubber impregnated fuel bowel and gas cap gaskets from Peterson and they work great. When I did my 147 hydro gasket I used a neoprene gasket that that I got years ago from a forum member who was making them at the time.

    42" cast iron end deck

I have a 42" deck that I use for leaf mulching in the fall. The pain of always needing to level it because of the hanger eyebolts has me wondering. Has anyone replaced those eyebolts by drilling out the holes in the deck to accomadate the loop style hangers used in the quick attach decks? I...

    My 147 Cub!

I think I have two of the best early Cubs that IH made. A Cub 70 and a Cub 147. Both of mine are workers. The 147 with a QA42 snow thrower is awesome for the big snows we have had. Single stage throwers do have some quirks, but once you know them they will throw some snow. I increased the...

Broken teaser spring on a 124

I had a broken teaser spring on my 70 and had the problems you mentioned. It works so much better since I replaced it.

Yes, sure looks like them. Working on a lift motor where there is almost nothing left of the current ones. Also trying to un-freeze the armature bushing on that end.

Does anyone know of a source for brushes for the Electric Lift Motor?

John Boelens, thanks for that info on the 48" deck blades.

Does anyone make blades with more lift that will fit a 48" mower deck on a 147? I seem to have trouble cutting the grass that is run down by the tires. I would like to try the Gator blades but I don't think they make that size. Any modifications anyone has made that help do a better cutting job?

To AG, or not to AG?

My .02. I put them on my Cub 70, mainly for plowing at plow days. I found that in the winter on my gravel drive way, I still needed chains, even with 110# of weight on each wheel. My problem was when I pushed snow downhill from my garage, I had problems backing up, since I cannot plow snow...

Terry Busch, Could you post the dimensions of your bracket? Do you know what belt # you used. I assume you have the speedup sheave on the deck. Just measured the sheave on my deck - 5" Most likely I will put it on my 147.

Steve, Kraig, Charlie, & Terry Thanks for the information. I have saved all this info and will soon tackle putting the 44a deck on a narrow frame.

Has anyone tried to install a 44A deck on a narrow frame Cub? If so I would be interested in how to do it.

Does anyone have a source and part number for the fiber washer repair on the cub carburetor as mentioned in the faq section?

I guess the first order of business is to take a good look at the spring slot and check for slop in the linkage. Thanks to all for the input. You are right about too many washers. I tried that route some time ago by putting 2 washers in each end and was it ever jerky. I took one out on...

Has anyone on here tried different trunnion springs on their hydros? I would like to make mine operate more consistently in speed when going up and down slopes in my yard. I have installed new oem springs and still have the variation to the point that I need to change the hydro lever to adjust...

Wild Bill, I used pipe (not sure what size, will check tomorrow). I made the saucers out of 1/8" steel (I think). I used an old bearing race and a solid piece of round stock and pressed them in a hydraulic press to get the saucer effect. I will gladly get all the dimensions for the items if...
