Don, Make sure the rockshaft arm has the fiber button that engages the metal button on the front of your PTO clutch. Those buttons do break easily and then the rockshaft arm is in direct contact with the PTO button and bad things happen quickly. There are aftermarket brass buttons...

David, It sounds like your tensioner (idler) spring may be broke which happens now and then. You shouldn't have to get a shorter belt get tension on your belt. The spring should be applying tension to the belt via the idler arm and pulley. What often happens after years of use is the...

IH and McCormick were also huge in Russia too before the Czar fell out of power and the Communist's took over. There's good reason why "International" was the first part of Harvester's name after the merger. It truly was one of the first global companies in its day. Navistar Corporate...

Don M, Also make sure your mule drive pulleys both spin freely and that there is no slop in the bearings. A bad/loose bearing will cause the belt to fly off quickly as well. I'm with Kirk and Kraig on your pulleys being bent inwards towards each other a little too far, but give it try...

Jason W, Matt's right, in addition to the sheared key, you are missing the spring lock washer that goes on the shaft between the nut and pulley hub. Better pick one of those up at the parts store as well. The Delco Remy number is 1941978 Hydro, Thanks for the reminder about Richard's...

Kraig/Charlie, Best recollection I have was that IH announced the sale of the Lawn and Garden Products Division to MTD in early 1981 (February, I think), just before the UAW strike ended. I remember seeing the letter from IH as we were still getting some dealer correspondence from the KC...

I didn't realize that MTD was a privately held company. Definitely reason for concern for our older IH Cub Cadets if Stanley/B&D gets their grubby hands on it. Same thing could happen with Navistar and VW as the Germans already got their foot in the door last year.

Kraig M, Just drill a small hole in the frame rail big enough to get the Allen head screw through and in line with the hole axis in the block. IH did exactly that on the 1X6/7 models.

Charlie, Thanks for the tribute to those who lost their lives 17 years ago today. We must never forget. Driving into work this morning I passed two fire stations and the firemen on duty at both were gathered out in front of their stations to pray, remember and honor those lives lost during...

Charlie, Wow, last I knew those IH-394936-R91 steering retainers w/seal were NLA. I see you now have them in stock. You are a miracle worker!

Charlie, Send those foam steering gear seals back to JD and tell them they are missing the metal retainer that should be with it. Surely JD, as an OEM, could place a big enough order from ROSS to get them to make a batch of those! Probably just wishful thinking.

Jim S, Did you do anything with the valve guides when you rebuilt your engine? The local long time machine shop owner that recently bored out a K301 block for me also replaced the exhaust valve guide. When I asked him why, he said with many years of experience, never reuse an old exhaust...

Larry K, Ditto what Matt said on the balance gears (aka Grenade gears). Installing David Kirks balance plate on the crank to compensate for the removal the balance gears works well and you won't have to worry about the grenade gears ever again.

Hydro Harry, That's an interesting basket pulley puller you have there. I haven't seen that one before. Thanks for sharing.

Larry K, Removal of the PTO clutch shouldn't damage the triangle tension spring. The PTO clutch rebuild kit contains a new spring. The spring is not available by itself. I had a tough time getting the basket pulley off the crankshaft on a K301 I'm currently rebuilding. You can't pull/pry...

Paul R, Welcome to the IHCC forum. Most likely one of the Spirol roll pins c/t your drive shaft has sheared off. There are three roll pins, one where the drive shaft attaches to coupler on the engine, one at rear of the drive shaft, and one c/t the cast iron coupler on the hydro pump. With...

David S, Nice find on your new 70...and it even has options! I see lights, rear sleeve hitch and creeper (I think). Great Bonuses! Definitely not a parts tractor. Unless it has a thrown rod, with a little of your TLC, I'm sure you will have it running soon.

Greg L., A 109 has the durable K241 10 hp engine. There is some thought that the 105, 107 and 109 models were a little underpowered with the hydro transmission. When IH introduced the Quietline models, they didn't offer a 1050 model (10 hp w/hydro). It can easily handle a 38" or 42" deck...
