    2072 Rear End Frame Bolts

Steve, If you drill, use a left hand drill bit. Often times a left hand bit will "catch" enough to back them right out.

Scott S. My 126, which has its original rear tires, does not set level unless there is a 2psi difference in pressure. It is definately the tires and it took me a while to figure out. I suggest that you put the tractor on a flat level surface and measure everything and everywhere you can think of.

Josh O, When looking for a leak try to find the highest point that is wet is is usually the source. This might be a good time to remove the fender pan assy and check further forward. I also have a 147. If the hydro stat leaks the little fan can tend to blow the oil rearward. Even slight seepage...

    Snow is coming!

Everett, Definately check the gear box. Mine is the grease type and when I removed the cover the grease was total crud. The manual specifies "IH251H EP grease or #2 lithium grease. I have had trouble with the set screws coming loose on the drive shaft. I now use longer square headed set screws...

Paul, The service manual for that series, illustration #2-43 or #2-48 seems to show that the rod has a bend in it. I had my 147 apart awhile back and mine was bent like that. After pondering tha situation,I left it alone. Maybe someone else has/had one of those apart and can confirm whether...

Cletus, My 126, which appears to have its original rear tires, requires 2# more air pressure in the rt rear tire to set level. I suggest that you put the tractor on a flat floor and take as many measurements as you can think of.

Bruce,Richard, I have a 126 and 147. Both have fresh o'hauls, one is .020 over and the other is .030 over (don't remember which is which)that I use for heavy off lawn mowing. I use the same deck for both. I can not tell any significant difference in power between the two. I never used the 147...

Kraig, That beautiful scale model you posted is made from a Case/Ingersoll garden tractor. Do you have a picture of one to show what the builder started with? Thanks,Wayne

Ryan, I also have a copy of the installation and parts ordering instructions for "Universal Service Engine & Short Block for 12 HP International Harvester Tractors" publication #TT92-A, revised 7-77. The first paragraph: The #61303C91(47504) Universal Service engine replaces all Model K301A and...

Josh, My original operators manual, which covers all models in that series, shows all models except 147,to have the single long dip stick and the 147 is shown as having the two dipsticks (Illust. 29,29A and 29B). WHen you have balance gears you can't have a long stick in the tube by the...

Wayne, If your engine has a sticker instead of a metal tag attached to the blower housing you may have a factory replacement engine. My 126 has one,it was painted black instead of yellow and had a sticker instead of a metal tag and no holes drilled in the blower housing to attach the metal tag...

Matt, You first need to check the condition of the shaft that ran in the bushing. The shaft is most likely badly worn and may not be reusable. It must be very smooth or a new bushing will not last. On the end frame below the bushing, the round part is an oil reservoir and a little wick that...

John B. Are you running the engine at full speed? The decks on Cubs and most anything else are designed to function best with the engine at full speed,so that the deck can "clean its self out" Most decks have a curved baffle around the blades that help keep the clippings at the blades for...

Bruce, My 147 had the same problem when I got it. I used PB Blaster to free it up. There are friction washers on the lower end of the shaft. If you get things in there too slippery you may have trouble not having the necessary amount of friction required to keep the lever from moving on its own...

Cadet 76 jumping upon clutch release

Joe, Check the traction surface of the belt (the two sides)just in case someone sprayed it with belt dressing which can make it sticky,or for burning and glazing from continuous slippage.Check to see that the "V" in the pulleys is not worn excessively. The belt must run on the sides of the groove...

Strait When I got my 147 the speed control was bound up so bad that the PO had bent the "N" rod. See illustration 2-43 in the service manual for the correct shape. I sprayed penetrating oil on the friction disc area to free it up,then it was too free and the friction adjustment needed to be...

Ronald B. According to Hank Will's book "Cub Cadet The First 45 Years",which lists the production numbers, the 126 was not produced in near the numbers as most of the others in the series. I have restored mine and it is also a worker and are real trooper.

    Engine noise

Melvin, Factory replacement engines fairly early on and I assume short blocks, came with balance gears. Factory replacement engines were painted black My 126 has one in it. It has a different spec #,mine is 47504 and the engine tag is/was a sticker instead of a metal tag. If someone put a short...
