That's good to hear. There is a little bit of oil that recirculates thru the breather. There's a small hole in the breather plate (no.2 in the pic I posted) for it to drain back from the breather into the breather housing area which has another small hole for it to drain back into the crankcase.

Good Source for K241 Engine Parts

Agree. I wasn't trying to imply just blindly reuse them. I did say to spin them a few times. Rough or loose they obviously should be replaced.

Part ordered for my lathe departs on countrywide tour!!

Hahaha - the saga continues. I actually blame it on Trump's Postmaster General. He's the one that made the change from 29 distribution centers to 7. I suspect UPS and FEDEX were short handed in the areas where he closed them and they got new jobs right away. The Want Ad probably said "Must...

    Newly Acquired 149: Modified Deck

When it comes to IH Cub Cadets, I definitely have OCD. To the extent my 169 only has original IH parts, down to the bolts having the heads stamped with WP (which is for West Pullman , Chicago suburb where IH had their hardware manufacturing plant. If you look on page 3 of the service manual...

    Hello from Alaska!

I believe it's 121579. It sorta looks like someone tried to stamp it twice, like there wasn't enough room for the complete number on the first attempt. 121579 means it was built in May of 1965 so it has to be a model 70 (if it's 7hp) or a model 100 if it's 10hp. Pretty certain it's a 100 from...

    K321 carb issue

Wow 😮. That is a first to hear of. Usually you can't get them loose. I guess 50+ years of vibration can loosen anything. Thanks for letting us know.

    Newly Acquired 149: Modified Deck

Jim Chabot was a museum curator extrodinaire. His goal at one point was 2 models from each of the IH Cub Cadet series, generally the lowest and highest HP units. Along with his 169 he had a model 86. He called it his Surrey with the yellow fringe around the top. He had the rare option sun...

Good Source for K241 Engine Parts

I can understand your scope creep while you have the engine out, but before you decide overhauling I'd have a look see at what you got. First order of business is removing the head. If the piston is stamped .010, .020 or.030 then you know it's been overhauled previously. Doesn't necessarily...

Yes, that's the breather. It's also the valve cover. You have to remove the nut and the breather assembly comes off. You'll find the valves inside. They do need periodic adjustment. Don't recall off hand how often. Probably 500 hours. Here's a pic from the IH Engine Manual I have so you...

Well, your 149 sure was clean before you used it. I was actually quite impressed seeing it in the videos. It had to have been washed, and washed up good. Personally I don't like washing them any more than you have to. I feel like it starts the rust process. Also, you really need to wait...

    Cub Cadet Story

I was looking for some info in my files and ran across this Story. It may have been posted sometime back. Just not sure. I did try to check the archives but after going back 15 years I didn't find anything. It doesn't have an author's name so I can provide credit where credit is do. Here's...

    Newly Acquired 149: Modified Deck

Kraig - Oh Great One, Keeper of the Photos: that photo must be around 2001 since Jim and I finished our 169's up at roughly the same time. I wish I knew who Jim's secret NOS parts provider was. He sure came up with a lot of NOS parts. One thing I never quite got was why he didn't shorten the...

Well, watched both videos. Does look like a nice cut. Also noticed your clothes line. Boy you don't often see those anymore. As for your mowing deck dropping down after setting overnight. I'm thinking that is pretty normal. Your hydrostatic drive and your hydraulic lift operate using the...

    Newly Acquired 149: Modified Deck

My concern with your deck is the addition of the gauge wheels. They are actually done very well but they attach to the deck skin. As long as you use the deck in float a little higher than the gauge wheels you're probably ok - but I get a sense with the way the wheels are the previous owner...

That's great. I believe the Operator's Manual will explain how to use the hydraulic lift and adjust the cam stop so the deck floats, or to set lowest level of other implements. I don't know your location but wondering if you are considering any snow removal equipment for it.

Not sure if you have reviewed the other threads. This thread is for introductions. I watched all 3 of your videos. Your deck has been modified and there are some things that concern me about the way it's done. If you would like to raise questions about it and discuss the thread titled IH...

Proud New Owner of a 1973 Cub Cadet 149

Welcome to the best IH Cub Cadet Forum on the Internet. You seem to have a delayed version of the Yell'r and White Fever, but since you're here it will help keep it calmed. It is a chronic condition with no cure. You already mentioned your familiarity with the Kohler single cylinder fumes...

    122 Trans question

One more thing Jerry that I should have mentioned. You thought the "water got in to the breather hole up by the creeper lever". That ain't the way. The Creeper is basically a sealed unit lubricated with it's own fluid. The water or moisture in your rearend is most likely 20+(or 30 or 40)...

    Brake safety switch "paddle" replacement

Well, you didn't provide the serial number for your 582 so there are a couple different styles. I did check the parts list and if you have a 582 or 582 Special with a serial number 716,387 and below then it's part no. 932-3000. If your serial number is 720,000 and below (but higher than...

    122 Trans question

Well, what ever you end up using remember your Gear Drive tranny holds 7 pts (3 and 1/2 qts). The hydro drives hold 14 pts (7 qts).
