    107 Hydrostatic locked in neutral

I would agree that it must be something to do with the linkage and the mechanism that brings it back to neutral. When it works, it works fine, but theres lots of moving parts. I almost wonder if maybe at some point when you pressed the brake, it returned to neutral, and then the linkage managed...

    just a reminder about mice

I just had an encounter with mice in an engine yesterday. I went to pull my little John Deere 111 out and get it going again after sitting over winter. I open the hood and as I'm putting a battery in it, that smell hits me... check the front of the engine and sure enough, grass and hay sticking...

    Working on the little engines

I was just going to check the points, not the camshaft timing. I've been careful to not run it very long in fear of having it seize up. As for paint, admittedly if I paint an engine and it turns out good I'd be scared to run it! I'm a big fan of the "work clothes" patina look, of course there is...

    Working on the little engines

Gary I'll definitely look into that, as well as the other advice mentioned. I'm curious what the timing is set at, will have to check. Gonna do a good look over the whole thing, get a muffler, change the oil, check the timing, spark plug, and of course try a lead additive in the gas. Should I be...

Another Farmall H joins the fleet

in my anger I realized that I never updated you all about this machine, and the good news is that it does run and provided i can find a few replacement parts it will be driveable. As mentioned I need rubber bushings in the coupling between the engine and transmission and possibly the mounting...

Another Farmall H joins the fleet

oh it gets better! because I told him I wasn't going to part the tractor out he's accusing me of acting like I know more than him. Not the case at all, I just hate to see a perfectly good machine get parted out!

    Working on the little engines

In today's installment of working on the little engines, lets cover one of my newest additions to the collection. This is a 1934 (?) Briggs and Stratton model Y kick start that was given to me from my dad as a birthday gift. It runs, but it has a big issue with overheating after just a couple...

    Working on the little engines

Its also worth mentioning my Maytag 92. I actually replaced the connecting rod on it back in the winter. Old one seemed to have a fair bit of slop being made of brass. Seemed like cheap insurance, Crankshaft was fine. Other than that just cosmetic stuff, replaced the Tractor Supply muffler that...

    Working on the little engines

Next I pulled out the Clinton that I've had the longest. This is a model 774AT, a derivative of the 700A series Clinton engines. These date to the same era as my 350 seen above. I bought this engine 4 years ago now for $5. it had almost no paint left on it. It's not pretty but I ended up going...

    Working on the little engines

Thought I would start a thread for myself to keep track of my "smaller" projects. With the county fair under 3 months away I need to have an engine fleet ready for display! So we'll start back early on in the month. I pulled out 2 of the engines that were displayed last year and got them going...

    Shattered Dreams by John Deere

that is amazing. Attica isn't very far from me either.

    Hydro leak

if I had to guess I'd say its the dreaded cork gasket that seals the hydro unit to the axle. Common leak point, gonna have to replace it on my 107 soon.

    Kohler vs well, everybody else

I have a Wisconsin TJD inline 2 cylinder mounted on a flail mower... cant remember how much it vibrated but i dont think it was too much. What I do know is that those 2 cylinders sound amazing!

    Kohler vs well, everybody else

if the 16 is shaky, I wonder about the 18?

    Kohler vs well, everybody else

my plan for this one currently is to leave it alone. there's still a bunch of original paint on the block, its some sort of a dark blue-green. There's something I like about any machine left in its "work clothes". On the other hand, I have a Clinton 350 that was painted yellow some time in its...

    Kohler vs well, everybody else

I think Kohler really seemed to know what they were doing, especially with the K series. I just fired up my little Kohler K90 yesterday after sitting all winter. The K90 was the first of the K series, produced from 1952-1959 when it was replaced by the K91. This little engine unfortunately sat...

Another Farmall H joins the fleet

yeah, its a shame. I really don't want it to end up as a parts tractor, I'm gonna do what I can to get it going. It's a late WWII tractor, built 1944, so it has magneto ignition and appears to still be 6 volt. Radiator is empty so the cooling system is questionable. If the magneto is still good...

Another Farmall H joins the fleet

My father purchased this local H for cheap in an auction. With a running H and M already on the farm we don't really have a use for it but for $500 we can't lose either way. The future of this tractor depends on whether or not it can be brought back to life. If it can, its an incredibly cheap...
