    If you are getting a click at solenoid than I don't think it's a safety switch. Are you absolutely positive the battery is good?

    A lot of older engines will do that. May be a sign of worn piston rings and may improve when warmed up to operating temps.

    I bought an Optima yellow top 6v battery in June 2010 for my Farmall Cub. Over 12 years old still going strong and the tractor is stored in an unheated shed. They haven't made the yellow top 6v for several years now. Good thing about Optima's is no acid and no corrosion and can be installed...

    If your pulleys are still good you can get the spindle assembly W/O pulley. All 3 use the same one.
