14 gauge should be sufficient for basically everything but the battery, starter, and ground cables. Battery, starter, and ground cables were originally 8 gauge at that time period (possibly 6...don't have one in front of me to verify). I used 4 gauge for the battery, starter, and ground cables on my 1872, which was likely massive overkill, but it cranks over GREAT all year long.
