Hi All

I just pulled the steering wheel off my cub 104. That was an ordeal because shaft and wheel were rusted together pretty solid. It took a bearing splitter, a wheel puller, a hammer, and about a gallon of PB Blaster.

In any case, to make a long story short...my efforts resulted in boogering up the threads on the shaft. My plan is to buy a thread die to clean the threads up (any advice to the contrary would be appreciated). I was hoping someone could tell me what the original thread size and pitch are so I can buy the correct die. Thank you.

Dies that large are expensive and just to use once is not worth it.. If you take off the steering assembly and take it to a local small machine shop they may be able to repair it for you...

I’m almost certain the thread is 5/8”-18. A thread file would be cheaper and each file has 8 different pitches on it.

I also believe it's 5/8" - 18 thread. I have a chaser kit similar to this one that I have used a bunch of times to clean up threads:
