i have a 100 that appears to be mostly original paint. there are some areas of surface rust from chips, scratches, etc. i want to maintain the original look but would like to brighten it up a little. it needs a good degreasing and washing. i was thinking something like a brass scrubber followed by some car wax.

does anyone have any recommendations on how to treat the surface without removing the original paint?

I would think a good car wash soap and a sponge or rag.. soap it up and rinse it off. Once the paint is cleaned wax it if you like. Or if you want to get crazy do a cut and buff. "Cut" with 1200 or 1500 sandpaper, keep it wet and clean while "cutting" and then buff it and glaze it wax it... it'll shine like a new penny when done right.

Depending on the overall paint condition, one of Vice Grip Garage's approaches might be appropriate. His gig is getting old unwanted cars, getting them running and trying to drive them home. He uses different approaches to clean up the paint once he gets there. I think this one he is dealing with rust bleeding through paint.
Family friendly, but be prepared for a somewhat different sense of humor...
edit: Oh wow, didn't expect that to actually show an image.
