whats the consensus on what rpm to be at when turning on the deck to minimize wear on the pto clutch? lower and then once engaged, mow at top rpm? thats been what i have been doing on my 100 but i just started mowing with it.

Best to engage the PTO at the lowest RPM you can and not bog the engine down. The wide open throttle.
