I have a 1980 model 682. Last night I finally got it all together. Got it going and when I attempted to engage pto, it bogged and killed the engine.
I'm pretty sure it killed it because I didn't give it enough time to be fly warmed an everything.
My issue is that now when the mower is going and I attempt to engage pto, nothing happens. I've checked the fuse, made sure I don't have any seized pulleys, all that.
But I'm at a loss.
Thanks in advance

Check the air gap and see what happens.

often I want to prove an elec. clutch works before putting a deck back on.I cut the clutch plug off a junker. unhook the one in question and use extra plug to jump pos.and neg from batt. to clutch plug.If it's good you should be able to hear it click...trying to jump these tiny connectors is a pain but an extra plug works good to test...almost always they click but as Digger mentioned if the air gap is too close you might not hear it.try touching it while connecting to feel if there is movement. It might require 2 more hands to do the test. A clutch can be tested out of a machine the same way...pos.neg.
