just purchased a 1973 128 with a breaking plow/tractor tires on rear and a mower deck and the canopy complete with the original cover.
it runs and starts easy.
the body needs some attention and paint as well as the mower deck which i will be doing this weekend.
my problem is i dont think i was given everything to install the mower deck?
what i have is the main support bracket and the deck.
i think the correct belt is IH-401960-r1?
have read of springs and things for the deck.
my deck on lever goes to a clutch style on the front of the engine for engage and disengage.
manual raise and lower so it looks like i need to drop the plow to be able to connect and raise and lower the mower deck?
please correct me if i am wrong.
cant find any diagrams as far as how to hang the deck.
i need it as a mower right now and was cheaper than anything brand new.
texas farm boy and mechanic after i was a marine. just some advice. thank you

Welcome to the forum!

That 401960 is the starter belt.
Since you didn't mention what size deck it is, you can look here to find out which one you need.

And here for the deck info.

And here for tractor and other manuals,

Welcome to the forum! :groupwave:
I would think you have more sand than grass down there in Swansboro.
Forget the mowing, you need to be down at Emerald Isle fishing! :roflol:
Congrats from another tarheel. My first cub was a 128 also. Still use it to plow the garden. Digger posted everything you need to get you going. Go through all that, and you will be well on your way.

Welcome to the forum Mitchel. Enjoy!

Welcome to the Forum Mitchel. Can't wait to see some pics of your 128 with the surrey and fringe around the top. It's an extremely rare hardly ever seen option. We really need to see it!

i suck at posting pics and so far the only way i found is to post the only pic i have from the for sale add into the media thing.
just did that.
dont know where it will show at.
if it went through maybe the moderators can help my computer illiterate self out and move it to the appropiate spot.
and now that i am making a reply i see the attach file stuff??
thats easier than the only other forum i am on.

That's it!!!!!!!
Looks to be in very good condition to, even the fringe.

it is a few of the buttons have fell apart but other than that its good.
got the deck hanger figured out or at least my son did before i got it cleaned and painted.
worked on cleaning and painting the deck today.
waiting on paint to dry now.
found one of my zirk fittings is missing its retaining ball so was just gonna throw a new one it but realized it aint that easy.
but everything takes grease so will find or make a cap/cover for it.
just need to mow for another month or so and then i can start cleaning up the tractor body which is minimal.
want a new seat but not necessary right now cause it came with a custom cover and the padding is fine.
just some TLC but couldnt see putting the deck under it if i could clean things up and check it out while it was already out.
my next thing to do is look into the timing of the blades for when i put the belt back on.
but before i pulled the belt the blades were meeting end to end not touching alternating between each full turn of the center blade?
it is a 48" 3 blade deck
