Hi guys,
I bought a basket case Original 61’. To my chagrin when pulled down it had already been bored .30. Who ever did the work looks to have broken a ring on install. Deep scores lead me to believe this block is toast. Ideas for a replacement are welcome. Seems 181’s are plentiful?

If that was the "small bore" K161 you might be able to go to one of the "large bore" K161/K181 oversizes. I can't remember how different they are, but that might be an option.

He may have a good block (or engine).
You can find him on fb.
I'm going to run over there Monday to get some stuff myself.

Another option is find a bigger piston from something else and bore it to that size. There's lots of room for overbore on these. Also it could be sleeved back to standard size.

I’ve got several k161 blocks.
35.00 a piece sound reasonable?
PM if interested

I think the small bore K161 measured 2.875. Kohler service manual has it listed as 2.938 which should be the big bore K161.

will if you find block is to far gone.. stuff the piston back in it. toss a turbo on it. set it up on a bench outside and let her rip.. video it tho so we all can see the top pop..
just sayin..
