I've got a Kohler command pro 22 with a broken gear

I took it apart today,and found the gear at the end of the crank is just spinning and not turning the cam gear. Will this mean to replace it with new crank,or can it be repaired with new gear press on.THX
 
William, bad news is that you will need to replace the whole crankshaft. You actually need to install a new camshaft as well; if you don't you are very likely going to have a repeat failure which is big $$ again. Very, very likely in fact.. Trust me, I worked in Kohler's engine service department prior to the big layoffs.
Any chance that someone recently put a new camshaft in that Command? Either way, what I would advise is giving the Kohler Engines 800# a call and insist on speaking directly with a factory rep. Tell them honestly what you found and see if they will offer a "goodwill" assist with the parts.
