I change the oil alot and I use wix oil filter bypas ratings 9-11 which is the same as kohler oil filter. My compression 182 on right side 178 left side. I just bought a new reed valve and filter that I haven't put it on yet. My question is I want to sell it and if oil comes out again, would it be alright to connect a long hose and run it all the way to rear. That could slow it down or I could tell people that smoke is from the breather rather than have oil all over the air filter. Thx

You probably diagnosed it correctly with the reed. Some had split/cracked which allowed that to happen. Others did not have a good sealing surface where the reed seats down. When installing it avoid twisting the reed by tightening the bolt.

If the sealing surface is poor, erosion or void in metal, be very careful in attempting to resurface that. It is easy to overdo it and remove too much.

I know what a pain it is to "oil" the air filter, 99.9% due to reed issues unless low vacuum in crankcase.

If you can get access to a vacuum tester install it in the oil filler, or dipstick location and see what you have. Typically you want >4" of water column at 3600 rpm or thereabouts. With decent vacuum it should not spit oil.

The breather into air filter is, as you know, an emissions related design. Short answer is that yes, you can, however it voids the design.
