I recently purchased a 2004 CC 7284 sub-compact and it has a steering issue. It seems that you have to turn the steering wheel far more than you should to turn the tractor. Also seems to be worse to the right than to the left. It has hydrostatic power steering.

This is probably not a super common model amongst the membership here, but I'll take a stab at it. First thing I'd try on a system like that is to change the fluid and filter on the hydraulic system. Use an OEM or good aftermarket like Wix or Baldwin filter.

The parts diagrams make it look like there are no user serviceable parts in the steering sector. Do the rest of the hydraulics operate correctly?

Thanks for you response Matt. Since the tractor is "new to me," I will take your advice and change out the fluids. I'm going to change them out front to rear and then I'll know that I'm good on fluids and filters. That's always a safe bet. All the other hydraulic functions (front end loader, 3-pt hitch, transmission, etc. seem to be strong and operating fine. There are two filters (hydrostatic and hydraulic) under the transmission so it could be as simple as a filter. I'll let you know as soon as I finish and give her a test run. Thanks again.
