I have a 1440. I believe it is a 1999 model based on the serial number. Is this a narrow or wide frame? How do I find out? Does anybody have the width measurements?

Jeff-
The "narrow" and "wide" frame designations typically only apply to the earlier IH built machines.

Your 1440 is an MTD-built unit and is neither...

Jeff, WELCOME!

In a way, both Art and Craig are correct. The 1440 is an MTD built Garden Tractor with a frame that is nearly the same as the frame on the IH built 82 series Garden Tractors (except the 982 which is a Super Garden Tractor). The 82 series is kind of a wide frame, often called a "spread frame" as the top of the frame spreads outward to allow for larger engines, such as the horizontally opposed KT series Kohler as would be found in the 782. Clear as mud?
