I got the rear end of the GT 3200 cracked open today. I expected to find the dif-lock collar return spring sacked but found this instead. Hmmm..... Most of the actuator fork has been turned into metallic funk in the bottom of the case. What remains is just thicker than aluminum foil in spots. Looks like what's left of the actuator fork has been riding on the locking collar for some time. Fortunately, the spring actuated disengage mechanism works dandy.

I'd be interested in hearing theories about how this would have happened because I'm scratching my head.

Here's what it's supposed to look like. I had to resize the file - sorry about the 2nd post.

I had the same issue with a 3240 that I bought for my parents. The guy I purchased it from had a steep driveway so I just assumed he rode the diff pedal a lot blowing snow. I think the metal on the fork is too soft.

Some of the metal made it into the hydro on mine. I took it all apart and cleaned it out. I also flushed all the hydraulic lines. I believe that was 3 to 4 years ago and it is still going strong.

Looks like a good place for a thrust bearing.....
