New member here and proud owner of a Cub Cadet 169. Don’t know if there are many 169 owners out there but eager to learn and chat. I moved to South Carolina from Dutchess County NY in 2019. Retired from Metro North Rail Road after 37+ years as a Director in the Mechanical Department. I attached a photo of my mostly restored 169, still has wheel weights and snow chains on the rears. Yes, I pushed a ton of Hudson Valley snow with that beast of a tractor. Don’t miss that drill one bit.

Thanks brother. It was a gift from a Rail Road retiree. He had it since new in 1974. Used it on his Gentlemans Farm in upstate NY. It didn’t run when I got it, I had the engine rebuilt, it had a broken cam shaft, bores had good cross hatch no wear, pistons were good valve guides and seats were good. All good signs that he maintained it regularly. He was an ex Ford Maintenance officer. I had the original muffler MIG welded back to usable as a replacement unit was prohibitively expensive. Did a light restoration. Runs well especially after the nest of field mice were vacated from the muffler (It spent several months at my friends garage while the engine was being rebuilt, thus the mice). All good but I’m looking for some input from members on some minor issues. Although I’ve not used it much since moving here just grading my obscenely long excuse of a driveway and leveling 2 yards of dirt into my front yard.

I’ll shoot pictures of the chassis tag and post a list of implements soon.

Welcome to the form. Good to have you with us. You’ll have plenty of interaction here for issues with your 169. Lots of information available from members, school of been there and there done that, there are manuals for you to access on the site. There are great vendors listed on the top of the site. Hope you enjoy the form.

Thank you all for the warm welcome. I’m frantically assembling photos in areas of interest for feedback and prepping for surgery tomorrow Cubbie first (priorities priorities). May not get to them today but will try in between painkillers Post surgery.

Best wishes for the surgery. My wife would recommend renting or buying a circulation cooler for inflammation after. Really helps. Basically a cooler you fill with ice and water, a small pump circulates it through mat you wrap around the surgery area.

Glad to see you have the hydraulic lift that was supposed to be included when the factory built it, but was most likely installed by the dealer. Yours may need a little maintenance because I see the handle leaning forward a little bit. Looking forward to more pics and discussions after your surgery.

Hydraulic lift operates well. Previous owner inserted a nail to replace missing pin that connects the handle to valve actuator rod way back in the console. It was almost impossible to get a roll pin installed. That pin has worked it’s way out twice. My fear is that I’ll have to disassemble much to gain clear access. My hands just don’t fit. What are my options for clear access? What type pin does that installation call for?

BTW this paragraph was a bear to type due to post OP anesthesia. I’m going to take a break.

Al - I can hardly believe you posted so quickly after the surgery. Don't tell your wife but most likely you have the "yell'r and white fever". It's extremely common on the Forum. It's chronic and incurable, just subsides on occasion but always there.
Your right about access to the roll pin in the hydraulic lift handle. Sounds like the hole in yours has wallowed out. Not sure how much disassembly would be required but as you already know you can hardly get at the roll pin. Suggest you post in the main Forum on a new separate thread to get all the answers from Forum members. (CC Specialties may have new chrome handles, or at least used to).

My pseudo recovery was more post anesthesia euphoria than anything else. Today is a bad day, lots of pain, meds help. But apparently, yellow and white fever is incurable. I’ll muster the energy to post on the main forum as you suggested. Might as well be productive. The only issue is that I’ll not be able to work on the 169 until I’m fully ambulatory and capable of executing repairs. I’ll concentrate on assistance in sourcing parts. As far as my wife is concerned, she tolerates my indulgences. Thanks for replying.
