Looking for a good resource for decal placement on a 1950 Farmal M. I am attempting to do a repaint on my tractor and it has no remaining decals to go by. Any help would be great.

Mary, here's some photos of the Farmall M that I have in my archives. I'll look for some more. I've not yet found any that show the operator's platform area.

MARY - Welcome to the Forum. The best resource for decal placement on a '50 M would be a book called "Letter Series Restoration Guide" written by Guy Fay. It has the dimensions for placing the decals in the right spots, and what decal goes where, and what should be painted and what isn't.

Now, I just saw on another forum last week that the current Amazon price is $130, so you may want to check with your local library and see if they can get it for you. It covers every FARMALL made from 1939 till 1954, both those made in Lousiville and those made at FARMALL in Rock Island where your M was built.

If tou haven't got them yet, company called MAPLE-HUNTER is the best source for the decals. The last set of OEM IH decals I bought didn't have a lot of the little decals, and that was over 20 yrs ago.

Mary,
Denny is correct MAaple-Hunter is THEE guy to go to. They can also tell you the correct set and maybe even placement of decals.

Maple-Hunter Decals
P.O. Box 805
Riley, IN

And for all you Cub Cadet and Lawn & Garden guys they do decals for just about every make L&G's.

Thanks for the info, when ordering from Maple Hunter, they have both vinyl and mylar... Has anybody used both, how much better are one than the other? Thanks

MARY - TOM is correct.... the mylar decals are silk-screened onto a clear mylar sheet and from less than ten feet you can still see the sheet. The die cut vinyl decals look even better than hand painted decals, and last MUCH longer.

And they're a snap to install too. Almost impossible to get an air bubble or wrinkle in them.

Last set of FARMALL decals I installed were the water transfer decals. Now THEY were a real pain to install.
