Check fluid level? Any strange noises? If not serviced recently, you may want to change hydro fluid, filter, and fill with Hy-Tran or equivalent. Also might be a linkage adjustment, or wear issue.

have changed the filter .yesterday fluid level was a little low.and it engaged instantly when I went to reverse.some times when I put it in the neutral position it continues to want to move forward when it will not go in reverse.no noise.

My cub some times does not want to back up.and other times is just fine.any help would be great.
by any chance?? are you pushing on brake at the same time? that moves linkage to return to neutral....I may be talking about the wrong model tho...I have a 1720 that won't allow any movement of hand lever when brake is even slightly pushed

The 82 series hydros are like that too. Engaging the brake pedal automatically kicks the hydro into neutral.
