I would like to replace the switch but can’t figure out where exactly it is or how to get to it. I know it’s located on the right side of the frame but that’s about it. Thanks!

I’m not sure if the brake switch is 17 or 19, but it should be one of those two, so it will be between the frame rails.

The Cub Cadet factory parts lookup can be very useful.

It should be one of those, but if I remember right, neither one is actually mounted exactly where the parts diagram shows. It is a giant pain to remove, but easy to install. I worked on one of these a year or so ago and spent a lot of time cussing at that switch.
 
I had an intermittent switch on my 682. It turned out to be a worn dust boot as the switch measured good through out it's travel and replacing the boot solved the problem.

2185 has completely different safety switches than a 682.

I bought a manual on-line that includes the diagram post by jkoenig. I removed the right side panel only to find that I have my work cut-out for me. It looks like a daunting task but I’m going to take my time to figure this out.
I’m pretty sure it’s the brake switch based on the way the mower was acting before it quit on me.
