I have a 2135 that runs fine for about 1/2 to 1 hour than stalls. I let sit for an hour or so and it starts and runs for another 1/2 to 1 hour. Any ideas why? It's not gas. I also have to choke it to start it all the time even when it is warm.

Another idea, does the engine have a fuel pump? (For example, is the fuel tank under the seat? Not familiar with the newer Cubs). If so, check the fuel pump. I once had a OT lawn mower with a 15.5 HP Kohler in it, and it would do the same thing. The owner (my former father-in-law) got tired of it, bought a new OT tractor, and pushed the one I had off the trailer in my driveway and told me I could have it.... he was tired of it. I did some troubleshooting and noticed the little in-line clear fuel filter didn't have much fuel in it. I removed the line, and the fuel flow when cranking was anemic. $45 dollars later for a new fuel pump, it was good as new. Never missed a beat after that. I got rid of it when I bought my 1450, and is was still running good when it left my driveway.

I had a issue like this on my 2185 and the coil pack was going out replaced it and everything worked great again, so if I were you I would check to see if you have spark when it stalls next time

I have a 1996. IH Cub Cadet1863 with 650 hrs on it. As I've read same story . Tractor runs for a half hr to hour then starts to loose power and stall. If before it stalls I disengage PTO she'll stay running. Seems like it's over heating. Engine block and cooling fins are clean ( repair shop said they cleaned fins and could not get it to overheat ) it only does under load cutting grass. I read here about MMO and put a few ounces in tank ,have not run tank completely through yet when she over heated again. If it is an exhaust vale Sticking how long would it take aprox to clean itself if at all. Also intermittent back fires when shutting down. I'm limited in engine knowledge my forte is flooring any help appreciated. Was my dad's tractor and his pride and joy.

Your 1863 is a step above a lawn tractor! At 20 years old and 650 hours that's just about a 40 hours use a year! Good luck!
