Hey Don- that 90hp Kohler would be a whole-lotta-fun in a motorcycle chassis...

I just acquired a generator that has a K321EP engine on it. The plan is to put this engine on a 108. My question is what does the EP stand for? The spec number is 60144a. Will this make a good pulling engine? Anyone need the generator portion?
Thanks for any help,

Mike

Mike,

EP is Kohler's designation for Electric Plant. This K321 has an external flange-mount oil pan which makes it difficult to install in a Cub without extensively modifying the block to adapt the narrower pan. Also, the crankshaft will have a tapered pto where the generator rotor attaches. My opinion - keep this as a generator set - it's a good one. Buy a run-out K321 engine spec'ed for a Cub Cadet and start from there.

I’m not sure if this is the right spot for this, but here goes.

I recently acquired a block that has K301 cast into it. (On the PTO side) I measured the bore with dial calipers at the top of the bore and got 3.246. Now given that the calipers aren’t the best way to measure the bore I'm sure I had a few thousands error. But that would still put it in the realm of being 3.251, or a K241 wouldn’t it? You guys think the block got mixed up at the casting/boring machines, or did they make all the blocks as K301s and just bore the 10s smaller?

Mike: I have seen guys put those style blocks in WF cubs. you'll need to do some cutting and welding though.

Tim. nost 10's built after Kohler introduced the 12 have K301 cast in the block on the PTO end.

Mike- leave the torch and sawzall out of it- just swing by Don's house and pick up a K321 ready-prepped for pulling.

Tim- go for broke- go visit Don and sneak away with that Geo Metro 3-cyl that's sitting on his garage floor and shoehorn it into an SGT!

Don, So there would not be any problems having this block bored out to a 12? Not that I will be doing it any time soon, but its nice to know it’s an option.

now I just need Dons address. Do I sneek in while he's at work? Trade him my generator for a 321? I do have a 12 that i've already taken apart along with a 10 that was in a Ford and the 7 that's in my little 70. was just hoping to have one ready sooner. turn key if it would of fit. i'm new to garden tractor pulling.I have 2 moline pulling farm tractors.

Don and all, You guys ever played much with the K361s? I have found a block, and was toying with the idea of putting it together.

I was looking at Kohler’s website in the parts section and it’s looking like a lot of the parts I need are “discontinued”. Namely everything in this picture.

Are after market parts available? Or am I SOL?

those engines make great pullers. big problem is cost of head parts. reliability isn't great on the valve train either. I know alot of parts are NLA. check out old Simplicity,Gravely, Jacobson & Power King dealers since they all used them. rotating parts are all the same as the K341.
