Brian, if I read your post correctly, you're going at this from the wrong end. You need to assemble the top plate and lower plate before you compress the spring. Then you need some sort of spring compressor. Here's what I use. Hope it helps.

I had a sneaking feeling that was the case!

Easy enough to breakdown, I have the custom spring tool

Those zerks are press in, so you'll have to use a screw. Black sheetrock screws work well for that.
Cut the sharp end off and tap it in, then screw it just a little but not to far, and you should be able to pull it leftover piece out with no problem.

Let's see... no balance gears.

So now comes the hard part of saving up to purchase one.

Marlin H,

I believe those new K301's Charlie has do have balance gears. Note dipstick is on the left side c/t the camshaft gear cover and Introduction instructions mention Kohler's "Dynamic Balance System"

Hello everyone
Can someone tell me the difference between a QA42 and a QA42A snowthrower?

Ed C.
Yes I can!
One of those 2 has a "A" on the end of it.

Other than that, the one without the A only fits Narrow frame tractors and the one with the A fits both NF and WF.

That looks purdy, looks like it has a shallow oil pan though, unless little men are holding it level, do they have the deep sump oil pan, hard to tell from here.

Charlie, that is beautiful.
